Good but not great coverage on routine care
Good but not great coverage. For your average pet owner, pet insurance is something we expect to cover repetitive expenses: dental cleanings, shots, physicals, fecal floatation, anal gland expression, etc. Most of that is covered but only if you buy the Best Wellness plan, and even then, the maximum payout per period is so low and so specific that most routine care isn't actually covered. For example, the dental cleaning is "fully" covered, but that just means the dental prophylaxis is covered, not medical waste, anesthesia, ampicillin, vitals monitoring, dental radiographs, endotracheal intubation, IV catheter/fluids, Hospitalization, dental exam, or bloodwork. All together, our total bill is just over $900. PetsBest reimbursed us $270. For accident and illness, the plan is great. We have the 90% reimbursement and $250 out of pocket. However, most of the time we have no accidents or illnesses and, like I said before, most treatment falls under the wellness plan, which just doesn't cover enough.

Worth Every “Penny”
A friend of mine told me about pet insurance so I began looking into it. I have two dogs, so cost/value was a valid concern. I imagined an accident or something dents related would be the only real reason for a costly vet visit so I was hesitant. After coming to the realization that my dogs are basically my kids I really should have them insured. Never in my wildest dreams did I know what I was in store for. My little one and the baby of the family Penny, ended up being diagnosed with Lymphoma and given a very grim life expectancy. My heart was absolutely broken. She was referred to a specialist for treatment whereas the options were only two. Pay for chemo or … I don’t even want to think about the 2nd option. If she wasn’t insured though, I don’t think I could’ve ever pulled off cancer treatments. So albeit still a hefty price to pay all around her tagline for life has coined the phrase “worth every Penny” as she’s still here, thriving and playing with her sister. To note the processes as a client of Embrace, they are fabulous. The phone app is as easy as making a cup of coffee. Whenever I’ve needed assistance they’ve been there to help and all of the reimbursements are sent without delay. It’s honestly awesome. Thank you Embrace. We are “fur_ever fans!”

Trupanion takes care of Molly and Me!!!!
We have so much on us as parents to our precious pups when they are ill and hurting. A huge relief on our shoulders is that Trupanion takes care of us with the monetary worry so that we are focused on the care of our babies. Thank you T!!

Great until a large rate increase
Has been a good experience up until recently. Our dog has needed quite a bit of care this last year due to injuries caused by another dog.....fast forward, now we get to pay a $20 a month increase in our coverage. After years of never needing to use the insurance, but paying into it.

I can only review the buying process ......
Since I haven't had to use the insurance, I really can't give much of a review. The ability to choose an inexpensive accident only policy was easy and a big plus. Our young collie puppy isn't likely to have health problems now, but we do worry about her the way she runs around the yard. And there's always the possibility of a puppy eating something she shouldn't.

Figo are the best
Figo are the best. When our little dachshund had back surgery this year, they paid us so quickly and with no questions or quibbles. Plus our renewal policy has not even increased that much after this surgery. So impressed with them!!!

Peace of mind is priceless - be an advocate for your pet
We have such peace of mind knowing we can take our pup to the vet for anything. You never know what life can throw at you, and we are grateful for the financial support that helped us keep our pup healthy during a rather eventful youth. Our dog needed emergency surgery for a foreign object in her nose and though we had to go through an appeal process and call a few times to new the ball rolling, it all worked out in the end and the surgery and meds were largely covered.

Trupanion is professional, and hands down the most reputable Pet Insurance company I will ever sign up for!
Trupanion is professional, transparent and trustworthy! This is the only pet insurance that I will trust for my pets going forward. They stand up and demonstrate their policies exactly as they are described online. The only word of caution would be if when signing up for Trupanion for which you will be very glad you did, ensure you select the aftercare rider. Being new and unfamiliar to Trupanion at the time, I didn’t clearly read the policy regarding the rider option - this was MY FAULT, and had no idea how important it would be to tick that rider box until my pet 15 month old CapeShore required bilateral TPLO surgery. It was not a showstopper, we paid for the rehabilitative appointments she needed to get her back on her paws but had I ticked that box all of that would have been covered at 90%. Once you sign up for coverage I believe you have only 1 month after signing your pet up to ‘add’ coverage for this rider to your policy. You can however, remove the rider at any time after that, but once removed you can not add it back again. I take full accountability for the above rider option decision not Trupanion, they do clearly state this under their policies, etc. that this would be the case. I should have discussed with Trupanion directly to ensure I clearly understood. I will say they were saviours with my pets surgery costs which were upwards of $20,000 - Trupanion paid up upwards of $16,000 and we paid the agreed $700.00 deductible which I chose to keep our payments down. Once she has been covered for this condition she is covered for life. For this condition, we will never have to pay that deductible again for anything related to this condition. Finally, Trupanion, in my experience is the only pet insurance company that can be direct billed by a veterinarian clinic. So with this pet insurance, you never have to pay for example upfront for the costs that are approved by Trupanion at 90% as the vet clinic submits an estimate and receive the Trupanion portion so you never have to worry about the 90% portion which to me is a Godsend!

Claims are a nightmare
Horrible onboarding and claims process. I have 2 labs and the price of insurance was high even though they were puppies when I started the plan. It took months and months to even onboard them because they kept asking for information of their medical history, including “doctor’s notes”, which my vet didn’t even understand what they wanted. They sent everything over and over again. Yet it kept being delayed because they were waiting on information of some sort. Embrace will happily let it sit forever unresolved, stating that you can try to get the info on their behalf. Well that would be nice if I knew what they needed. They finally onboarded me after months of fighting, with “pre-existing conditions” that didn’t actually exist. Fast forward 4 years. Upon filing my first medical claim, it’s been placed on hold pending additional medical information from the 12 month period prior to my on boarding. What?!? Embrace drags their feet until you finally give up. Their website states a diminishing deductible for each year of no claims. I’ve never seen that happen. Additionally if you alter your plan to add coverage they will happily oblige. What they do not tell you is if you reduce it back down you will be subjected to the new patient policy - along with initial waiting period and evaluation of pre-existing conditions. A huge expense and enormous hassle for little or no return. You are better off saving money each month yourself for your pets’ needs.
