Claims are handled quickly, but expensive premiums that increase unexpectedly.
This review is for my entire experience with Trupanion, not just the "date of experience". Claims are handled quickly, policy is clear, and I like being able to submit claims directly from my veterinarian's office. Lifetime deductible is an excellent benefit. Not 5 stars because premiums increased nearly 100% within several months due to "increased price of veterinary care in my area". This happened shortly after seeing a specialist, so it feels punitive in response to me seeking care for my pet. Also, as a veterinarian, I feel my premiums should be discounted because I frequently have lower lifetime medical costs due to catching illness early, fewer exams fees/lower invoices with employee discounts, and the fact I purchase many foods and medications at wholesale or severely discounted price compared to the general public. Veterinary staff should absolutely be extended discounted premiums.

ASPCA always goes above and beyond
ASPCA always goes above and beyond. After rushing to ER with our older guy, and ultimately having to put him down, I submitted all of the invoices next day. Clearly not thinking straight I failed to get/include the itemized items that were needed. No worries. ASPCA handled every bit of it, and in their usual efficient and speedy way. As fate would have it, within a week, a rescue was given to us. A pup. And of course, ASPCA will be her coverage. They are amazing and we are so grateful to them!

Have to have physical exam or medical records in order to be considered
I get the Pet Insurance so that I can be able to go and do the things that I need to do for my animal so I can afford it. Just to find out that I have to go and pay for a physical examination first before you’ll even consider ensuring them, which is also covered by the Insurance no I didn’t end up going with a plan.
