Hidden fees
Extremely disappointed in the lack of transparency around the “$35 account activation fee”. Never was this shared with me in my initial call with a Trupanion agent. Nor was it shared in the 75 emails I received in my first month of free care. Lastly, it was not communicated anywhere until AFTER I paid! That is absolutely ridiculous to have a hidden fee that is equivalent to the most they premium.

It was my first claim. Although it didn’t pay as it all went to deductible, the turnaround time was quick for a response and I love the personal detail on the email that said to give lots of love to Cooper from Trupanion.

So thankful we had Healthy Paws Pet Insurance when our Princess needed CCL repair surgery - twice!
Our little schi tzu cocker mix blew her CCL right back leg last year. After speaking to Orthopedic Veterinarian, we chose to have the surgery to alleviate her pain. This was a major surgery which cost almost $5,000, it was such a relief to have pet insurance to pay 80% after the deductable. It was an 8 week recovery with her needing to stay in a kennel which she did not like! You can imagine how we felt when just 13 months later, the exact same thing happened to her left back leg! Healthy Paws reimbursed the covered costs one day after submission of the invoice. No human health insurance is that quick! I researched pet insurances before purchasing quite extensively! I am glad I chose Healthy Paws! I have two small aging dogs and I am confident that I will be able to afford the care that they may need to keep them healthy and happy. With Covid issues and trouble getting appointments with the vet I had trouble with a claim.
With Covid issues and trouble getting appointments with the vet, I had trouble with a claim. While it was eventually resolved, I am worried I will have trouble on future claims and feel I might be spending money on insurance that I would have been better to save for such emergencies. I would definitely tell people to research Trupanion's insurance. Also, their monthly fees go up dramatically on their yearly review of your pet's insurance depending on where you live which to me, seems wrong, as this is a North American wide insurance company and basing fees on location is definitely penalizing people who live in cities where services are often more expensive that smaller towns or rural areas. I believe they cover more than other pet insurance companies but read the fine print.
