Pumpkin has covered (90%) our little dog’s operation for a luxating patella and the follow up operation a year and a half later to remove the pins used to stabilize the patella. We could not have done this without Pumpkin’s financial support. Their website is easy to navigate and they are prompt in dealing with claims. Can’t recommend them highly enough.

Made a difficult situation a little easier.
I have had pets in the past but it was not until I got my most recent dog that I figured I would get insurance for her. It was the best decision I have made as a pet owner. Our beloved bernedoodle has a sudden and serious health problem she is still dealing with and in all the trips to the vet and the ER with her, including a mulitiple day hospitalization, the one thing I did not have to worry about was how I was going to pay to help her because I have pet insurance. Healthy Paws has been super easy to work with, fair with their coverage, and quick to reimburse us. It has made this challenging time for our family a little easier.

I like having the insurance for my family member but I dont understand why when I submit a claim I receive an email from the claims department that my claim is missing something. I am only told my paperwork is missing something and incomplete. After I reply asking for clarification and pointing out that I included the invoice from the Vet I then receive another email a couple of days later approving my claim but not telling why I received the initial email. Otherwise the process is easy.

I recently submitted a claim for my dog…
I recently submitted a claim for my dog Harald. I appreciate the very good communication regarding submitting the very correct paperwork. I received information regarding the payout, deductible & co-pay for meds. However, this amount does not total the 80% of the invoice I was expecting. I accept this, but would like to review a detailed breakdown of the payout. I’m grateful for the insurance, but believe there should be more transparency.

It works as advertised
It works as advertised. There are some potential points of annoyance (i.e. “previous balance” won’t be covered even if it’s part of the same procedure/invoice being subitted) so you need to make sure you understand the rules. But overall, I’ve been satisfied with the service. Worth noting is that it’s also fairly expensive so it’s entirely possible for the cost over time to be more than the rebates issued.

Just another scam
The AKC insurance was just like every other one we've tried. Every excuse possible not to pay anything. The list of exclusions that they come up with is really ridiculous, and the whole industry exists to collect money and pay out nothing. Farther ahead to just put the premium money in a savings account for future needs.

If your pet gets sick, get ready to pay through the nose on your premium
Pet's Best likes to use the same line that premiums increase due to your pets age and rising vet costs (that part is ridiculous). But now for the second time, I've had a dog that required more than the normal amount of medical attention. Even with the 80% reimbursement, you still go out of pocket a bit. The problem stems from when the policies are up for renewal. This is the second year in a row where they have nearly doubled my premium and use the "your pet is getting older" response. Truth of the matter is this - the more claims you file, the more your premium is going to spike and they know you can't switch because most insurance carriers won't cover pre-existing conditions. If I was more fiscally solvent it wouldn't be an issue but I just keep getting screwed over every time one of my dogs gets cancer or has a failing organ.
