Trupanion pets lead longer happier lives.1 Pets insured with Trupanion lived longer than pets without Trupanion because pet parents didn’t have to worry about the cost of the care their pet needed. Depending on the plan Trupanion covers up to 90% of eligible expenses, has unlimited payouts-always, and can pay your vet bill, within seconds, at time of checkout, so all you pay is your portion (anything not covered by Trupanion). They have transformed the way pet insurance handles claims by eliminating the reimbursement process.
Trupanion was founded in Canada and provides bets-in-class coverage and is dedicated to helping pets we love get the care they need. They’ve been around for more than 20 years, making them experts and setting standards for the industry. One perk of this, and what they pride themselves on, is the amount they pay out to pet owners for each claim. Paying out more on the dollar than any other pet insurance provider. To date they have paid out $2 Billion in claims and have insured nearly 1 million pets.
To put it simply, there is a reason why 98.7% of Trupanion members stay enrolled every month.

I had been considering Trupanion for months but, it got put on the back burner. Until I needed to take my puppy to the vet and the first thing they asked was if I had insurance. $300 later, I was wishing I did have it!
I did some research, made Trupanion a friend on Facebook and found a link through Dogster where I could get my first 2 months for free. Enough said....I signed up!
I hope I don't need the insurance but, since my puppy just turned 1 year old, I am thinking it will be great to have the coverage for many years to come.

Worst ever,
Purchased puppy, came with 1 month insurance which needed to be applied for within 48 hours, this was done. At vet visit for puppy shots, diagnosed with kennel cough, which eventually evolved into pneumonia 4 days later. Insurance claims were rejected, "preexisting condition". All we got was rhetoric when asking to reconsider. Would not recommend this to anyone.

Very Highly Recommended!
My Bernese Mountain Dog was getting older, and I had been thinking about pet insurance for awhile. I did some research, and settled on Trupanion for a number of reasons - there were no disease caps (just a lifetime cap of $20,000, which they've apparently now gotten rid of), the reimbursement was 90% compared to the 70 or 80% of other plans, and the premiums were the same or even less than other plans for better coverage.
I signed up with Trupanion in January. In February, I took my dog in for some vomiting after eating an old bone, and in March for his annual physical. In April I took him back for a dental cleaning, and they noticed some swelling on his toe. Some testing revealed a cancerous mast cell tumor. After consulting with oncologists at a major veterinary hospital in Boston, he had surgery to amputate the toe.
I was worried that Trupanion would call this a pre-existing condition, and steeled myself for having my claim rejected, knowing at least how human health insurance companies work. But I went ahead anyway - filled out the one-page form, had my vet sign, got a copy of his records since it was my first claim, and attached the invoices and sent it off - the process was very easy. A week later, the claim was approved and reimbursement sent without any argument.
Unfortunately, the biopsy and other testing after the surgery revealed some cancer cells on the two adjacent toes, so he had a three-week course of radiation, which was hugely expensive.

Very satisfied
I bought insurance when I got a new cat and after he was examined by the vet. He was from an old friend who had died. About 2 months after the adoption, I found a lump on him and it was lymphoma. After an initial denial, which was due in part to an error in the vet records, Trupanion paid his claim in full for surgery, heart work up, and follow up chemo. Thank goodness I bought this and I had a full physical exam at the time of purchase to document his condition. Over $4,500.00 in expenses were paid, very promptly once the initial denial was reversed. The claims rep, Cheri, was very nice and helpful.
Monthly cost varies due to multiple factors including: species, breed, age at enrollment, gender, and postal code.

Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures

Like all pet insurance providers, Trupanion does not cover pre-existing conditions. Whichever insurer you choose, it pays to enroll early!
