Trupanion kept their promise

Trupanion promises to reimburse quickly once a claim is filed. One of our cats became very sick and we had to file a claim. It took only about two weeks from the time when they received it until we received the check for the reimbursement in the mail. That is indeed very fast. I also like that they do not raise the premiums for the pet getting older. The premium is based on the age at enrollment. We only had one adjustment for general cost increase so far, with slightly over 2% reasonable. The only reason I did not give a ten as a rating is because they do not cover some of the fees veterinarians charge, but which are unavoidable (examination fees). How else can the animal be treated unless it is examined? However, compared to the other costs that can hit you for a treatment the fees are usually the much smaller part. Overall great service and a great philosophy

They also cover special shampoo and conditioner

My dog has skin allergies, and Trupanion covered for his special shampoo and conditioner. I had no problems ever, always got the reimbursements very fast.

Good for about a year

I've had Trupanion for just over a year, and I received an email today saying that my premium was going to DOUBLE! I've never submitted a claim and am signed up for automatic deductions so I've never missed/been late with a payment. Their stated excuse is "Advancements in veterinary medicine continue to improve the quality and lengthen the life of our pets. As cutting-edge technologies and techniques become the standard of care, Trupanion is committed to making these new options available to our policyholders. As a result, a rate adjustment is planned." Whether or not it's just a coincidence that I've only been a member for a year or if they increase your rates after a year, I'm not the least bit happy about this. I would think that if their stated reason was the true reason for the increase that there would be a more gradual increase than the one I got. Needless to say, I don't trust them and think others should beware.

Happy with pet insurance for Tony

Prior to adopting Tony, I had my girl Sasha. In the last two years of her life my husband and I spent a large amount of money for various tests and an operation to remove a slipped disc in her back which was a successful operation. About two year after that operation, she developed several more problems including a tumor, and possibly another disc problem. Due to her age and the recommendation of our vet we finally had to let Sasha go. Knowing I had done everything possible to save her life helped me accept what had to be done for her. I was fortunate that I could provide the care that she needed to the end of her life. When we adopted Tony, I was fully aware of the costs that a pet owner could incur so I elected to obtain pet insurance for Tony and I have been very much satisfied with the results from Trupanion and how they process the claims I have submitted for Tony so far. The insurance provides peace of mind should Tony develop any severe problems in the future.

A Plus Plus all around

Adopted my Kitty from a local shelter at the end of September 2010, 3 1/2 years old, approximately. Put pet insurance on him right away. I have already had two claims with Trupanion, I have to say I was so pleasantly surprised that both were paid with no hassle within 10 days, and the Trupanion staff kept me well informed of the progress of the claim via email. I was a skeptic about pet insurance and now I am a believer. If you are on the fence about pet insurance with this company, I hope this review helps you make a decision.

Coverage

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
