Trupanion is great

We have a three year old lab, Gunner. We signed on with Trupanion as soon as we got him. Trupanion processed numerous claims for us, the most recent being for TPLO surgery - a spendy one. Trupanion is always easy to reach with questions and is prompt with processing (provided the vet gets them the necessary paperwork). This particular claim took much longer than usual to process as a result of paperwork issues on the vet's end. I highly recommend them.

40% rate increase

I subscribed to Trupanion a year ago and after the first claim that was approved, all of a sudden I received a notice that my rate is being increased 40%. Their website specifically states that they do not penalize their clients as a result of claims but that this is an increase due to increase in pet care costs for my area. I checked with 3 local vets and they all stated that if they have increased their rates, it has never been more than 3%.

Took my lab in for tests with specialist,bill was over 2100. trupanion paid .And now I get email raising monthly rates from 85.00 for 2 dogs to 123.00 .Called and was told they are raising rates for everbody with large dogs. My labs in only 53 pds and golden 43 pds. When I signed up told rates will not increase with age and will only increase if area where i live is more expensive. Haven't moved, but told its a rate increase for all pet owners. then why haven't they raised rates for people I referred to trupanion

Excellent Insurance

I really love this insurance and have advised my vet's office multiple times to spread the word. I have an English Bulldog which is prone to breed specific illnesses and this is the only insurance I could find to cover him. I get 90% of the money back for all covered things and it is very hassle free. The fact that I can fax my claim and have the money within a week is another thing I am great full for. The only thing I'd like is if the actual vet exam was covered if the exam is for an illness or something other than a typical visit.

Great Experience

I was skeptical about getting pet insurance at first because I thought "what could ever go wrong?" Well let me tell you that anything and everything can go wrong. I searched the various pet insurance companies and I settled for Trupanion for several reasons. The first was that they would cover 90% of illnesses and accidents, the second being that there wasn't a yearly limit, and the third was the price. Even though the price was comparable, and in some cases lower, to other insurance companies that wasn't what brought me to Trupanion, it was #1 and #2. Now back to why I have had a great experience. My 1 year old female yellow lab came down with diarrhea that lasted for over a week. As other pet owners can attest to, diarrhea for that long can be deadly. I brought my girl to the vet for the initial examination and they ended up taking x-rays, prescribed medication and put her on some gentle food. That didn't totally work so I had to bring her back a second time again for another round of x-rays and different medication. After 8 or so days the diarrhea subsided and my girl was back to full health. As you can imagine the vet bill was costly but worth every dollar spend. I paid both bills in full but it sure was nice to have Trupanion on my side. They indeed paid 90% of the bill associated with the vet visits and didn't nickel and dime me to the point where they didn't pay anything. In fact they paid a great portion of the bill. Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
