I highly recommended Trupanion

My puppy was 3 months old when he had his 1st accident, ( a broken paw in 2 places ). Trupanion notified me via E-mail as soon as they received my claim, which was within 24 hrs of the doctors visit. The check was soon to follow. His 2nd accident was an accidental ingestion, which again was handled quickly and professionally. Wish my health insurance was as quick as Trupanion.

Glad I have it but...

Molly had a growth in her throat. The issue required an emergency vet visit, a follow up and then surgery. Trupanion was quick to respond and to pay the claims. The representatives were always friendly and informative. I chose a higher deductible for the policy; my out of pocket expense was $505. plus $394 for services not covered. When I add up the premiums paid plus the out of pocket, I am almost even.I am not sure in this case the insurance was ideal. My complaint would be that Trupanion does not cover exams. The explanation that I was given doesn't make sense. "It is Trupanions way of making sure that people are not taking their animal to the vet for exams in order to satisfy the deductible". I am not sure I will keep the policy.

Trupanion Not All It's Cracked Up to Be

After being financially devastated by my old dog's chronic illnesses, I researched pet insurance for the young dogs and kittens. Trupanion got a lot of really good reviews, so I went with them. In the three years I've had this insurance, the monthly fees have more than doubled per pet (the original $23 per month is now $50 each for my dogs). I've made two claims in the last year, and in both cases, the insurance check came nowhere near the 90% they claim they pay. If your animal is injured or sick and you bring him into the vet for treatment, Trupanion doesn't pay for the examination of the injured/sick pet. So if your bill is $100 and $50 of it was for the examination, you're only going to get 90% of $50, not the full amount you paid. In their defense, Trupanion did state they don't pay examination fees in their policy (which I missed in the small print), but with the doubled monthly fees, I am finding this insurance not all it's cracked up to be.

Trupanion Review

My dog has had a bit of bad luck and has seen the vet for a few things in the past 6 months. Trupanion is easy to use and they dont dispute and help cover some of the costs, which has helped us out greatly and our dog.

Feline Emergency Surgery Claim handled within days

Morgan, age 1 yr, 2 mos. underwent emergency surgery at Ardenwood Pet Hospital, in Fremont, CA. after ingestion of red sewing thread, endangering his intestinal tract. The claim form was sent to Trupanion on a Tuesday, and by Thursday, I was e-mailed that 90% of the vet bill was covered - and a check would be on its way to me. I had just gone to the bank to make a payment toward the $1,000+ bill that morning. Trupanion came through for Morgan at a most crucial time. Thanks to Trupanion's Claim Department for their excellent service and support. ntd18@sbcglobal.net

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
