well worth it

Our Westie has been covered since day one. The insurance has more than paid for itself. She developed a worm called ringworm and it was a costly diagnosis and treatment but the insurance plan sure helped. She is one of the family and we wouldn't be without our pet insurance.

Highly Recommended!

When we got Chogan (a bearded collie / lab mix) from the Delta animal shelter at 3 months, he came with a Petsecure free trial policy. Within a few days of adopting him, Chogan became very sick & was diagnosed with an intussusception requiring an operation that ended up costing almost $2000. The Petsecure trial covered the first $500 however within 2 days of the first operation, Chogan had a relapse & required surgery again. When Petsecure heard from our vet that he would require the 2nd operation (another $1200), they called us & told us that if we converted our trial policy to a full policy they would cover the cost of this surgery. We thought this was pretty amazing because the trial only provides one-off cover for $500 - so Petsecure were under no obligation to do anything more. Since then (about 9 months ago) Chogan has required another $400 visit to the vet for illn2ess & again, it has been covered by Petsecure. We are absolutely ecstatic with the cover we have received & highly recommend Petsecure to anybody looking for pet insurance.

Out of control premium increase.

Sometimes figures speak better than words. This is how my monthly premiums have been increasing during the past years. Nov 2005: $36.63 Aug 2006: $38.46 Aug 2007:$40.77 Oct 2008: $46.33 Oct 2009: $53.91 Oct 2010: $ 56.07 This is a hefty 53% increase over 5 years!!! Did I get more for my money over these 5 years? Not really... YES, because a $400 annual dental coverage and an additional $500 on renewable limits per accident were added. But NO, because in the same time, the third party property liability coverage up to $25000...just vanished without fanfare... Every year, Petsecure will justify the premium increase due to "veterinary care cost on the rise". OK, but I do not feel that my vet bills have increased 53% over the 5 past years: Examination/Consultation: Oct 2006: $60.90 June 2010: $72.50 (19% increase) Antibiotic. 20 tablets Clavamox 125 mg: Oct 2006: $41.48 Marc 2008: $45.50 Jul 2010: $46.57 (12% increase) I let those figures to your own appreciation.

Doesn't take much to become a 'risk'

We've had Petsecure insurance for a year and submitted claims for two emergency surgeries (foreign object ingestion) and a skin condition that has actually now started to clear up. Our Great Dane is now over a year old and things seem to be settling out in a sense. However, upon the semi-annual 'risk review', we were thrown into the high risk group and were dropped from 80% coverage to 50%. In their letters to customers, Petsecure likes to promote their showcase examples of 'top claim' high payouts, but those are all single case scenarios. The company is very good at quick claim processing and will rapidly approve and pay initial or periodic claims; we were initially very happy with Petsecure. Rest assured if you submit more than a couple of claims, you too will quickly become a risk to their profits...and their shareholders. We are now disappointed in Petsecure, and are shopping around for a different company that won't penalize their customers for accessing benefits.

Incredibly Upset

Similar to other posters I received a letter yesterday notifying me that my co-insurance would be bumped to 70% because I have made too many claims in the last little while. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Pet secure prides themselves on their "Secure for Life Guarantee" which states "we promise to our customers that their pet will never run out of coverage and that their pet's premiums won't rise. we also guarantee that as long as you remain a petsecure member you can continue to maintain your pet's existing coverage year after year after year," According to this my coverage should stay at 80% should it not? I got pet insurance to protect myself and my dog in the event of unforeseen emergencies. Now that I have had to make use of it I am being penalized.
