More negatives than positives

I am finding it harder to recommend Petsecure to my friends more than ever before. While I have had the positives, like dental injuries being covered and in a timely fashion, I feel that I have been plagued with red tape and have had to fight too much to make this policy worth it. This summer I purchased an adult dog who I believed was healthy. She was intact as she was selected for breeding purposes. She had been to a vet before I purchased her and all was fine. I brought her to my vet and signed up for the vetstart quick as it only has a 48 hour waiting period for illness or injury and I knew what plan I wanted. The vet that examined her that said said she had a false pregnancy and that her hocks hyperextended...fine, I understood that would be included, even though hocks hyperextending is a very common finding in dogs. A week later I had her hips and elbows xrayed for breeding clearances, only to find she had hip dysplasia. When talking to an insurance represenative this past fall I had mentioned that she had been spayed and they said they would review the exclusions as reproductive issues won't be a problem now that she had been spayed. I have since gotten a letter stating that her hips will not be included, even though it was discovered after her waiting period and she is not clinical. She was even taken to a board certified specialist who wasn't concerned about them at all as her muscling is good and she's not lame. I am very upset by this as I would have wait

So far so good:)

I received six weeks free trial when I adopted my dog in Sept. Thank goodness that I did not need to use it. However, I did sign up a couple days before it expired. Therefore I had not waiting period and did not have to pay the initial member fee.I really have never had a positive thing to say about any other companies, as the plans were insane. When my previous cattle dog was alive. I did end up going with TRUPANION. The price was ridiculous. I stayed with them for 3 months. My dog had NO pre-existing issues. Although I did not make a claim, I left. I found them to be nit pickers to the nth degree! So many people failed to receive compensation. I would never consider becoming a member or any insurance company for that matter. However, due to the fact that i received the 6 week trial when I rescue my boy.. I found myself calling so I could ask as many questions as possible. The agents I spoke too(I called lots!)were so kind and seemed genuinely interested to help me . In any event ,I chose Secure 3.I had my dogs teeth done. I really felt like there must be a trick and I would not be covered at all. I was so happy to find I was getting reimbursed .WOW! They paid 80% of my entire claim. The took my 100.00 deductible off. I ended up getting a good reimbursement. I was thrilled...Then, to top it off, I found out that I had satisfied my deductible and I did not have to pay this again, until next October! I had no idea! I thought I would have to pay the deductible for each clai

A Waste of Money

After 10 years without claims, insuring two dogs at a time, and not always the same two (they come and go), I finally submitted a claim for $240. After the $100 deductible, I called about the "co-insurance" of 20% ($48.00). What's the deductible for then! I get $92.00. They get $148! I paid about $12,000 in premiums over the ten years, and the only other accident claim I submitted 5 yr. ago (dog broke a tooth trying to chase a squirrel under the fence) they refused to pay b/c it wasn't "on the list of perils". Don't bother with insurance! If you have more than one dog, just self-insure. It will be cheaper in the long run, by a lot! I give them a "2" b/c at least they paid something, but I cancelled the policies, and I will self-insure from here on in.

0/10 Isn't an option!

I had a policy with my english bulldog puppy. The breeder offered a tril which waived all waiting periods. I picked the most expensive policy, Secure4 and made some claims in the first month which were clearly stated as covered in the Secure4 policy details. They denied my claims saying that my policy was not in effect, and then I found out they did not setup my policy correctly. I had to call and e-mail SEVERAL times to address the issue, and after 4 months, they finally reviewed and attempted to correct the issue. They promised customer service credits which I never saw, and after the second assessment denied a few claims AGAIN wrongfully. I have already switched to Trupanion they have much better claims process, a sliding (non-changing) deductible, and they guarantee 90% coverage where PetSecure reserves the right to randomly reduce coverage to 50%.
