Petsecure | Pet Insurance Review

In a previous job, I actually promoted PetSecure as a part of my position. I now sincerely regret that. A week or two after we filed a claim for the first time, they sent us a letter claiming they had to raise our premiums due to "the new region of Canada we were in", but we had never moved. It wasn't just an innocent error, either. We had made it known to them when we registered that my fiance and I lived separately, but shared custody of our dog. When they asked for my address on the claim form instead of his, they used that as a pretext to change our premiums-- and my address was in the very the same city, only 25 minutes away from his! The "region of Canada" excuse was clearly garbage. When we called and straightened this out (in a very polite manner), they followed up by sending a letter informing us that our coverage no longer included six common health problems! Unbelievable. Bottom line, we were penalized for making a claim the very first time we filed. We're going to be changing our insurance, not because we were underwritten, but because of the deceptive way in which they tried to make more money off of us first, under false pretenses. Don't waste your time or money.

So we had Petsecure while our pup was just that - a pup. Then I found myself unemployed and having to buy a condo, so the 50 bucks a month seemed a little steep. Once she started hitting up daycare and we were settled again, I resigned up... lucky, because she started presenting a torn ACL/Luxating Patella a month later. Petsecure covered everything, including hydrotherapy, to 80%. They are always professional and helpful on the phone, and even paid the practice direct for her very pricey surgery. I'm quite happy with the service, but wish they'd be a little faster with claims. Also, it seems ridiculous that they don't pay for "routine maitenance" to me... shouldn't they be encouraging us to avoid illness and problems?

WE WERE HEART BROKEN WHEN OUR G.S.P. DIED IN FEBRUARY LAST YEAR FROM CANCER. AFTER NINE MONTHS OF TEARS AND HEARTACHE WE DECIDED TO GET ANOTHER PUP - HENCE OUR JOSIE - CHOCOLATE LAB. OUR BREEDER HAD GIVEN US THREE MONTHS OF INSURANCE WITH PETSECURE AND WE DECIDED TO CONTINUE WITH SECURE 4 AFTER THE THREE MONTHS WAS UP. LITTLE DID WE KNOW HOW MUCH WE WOULD APPRECIATE OUR DECISION. IT DID NOT TAKE LONG TO REALIZE THAT OUR LITTLE 8 WEEK OLD PUP HAD A PROBLEM. SHE HAS HAD MAJOR SURGERY DUE TO KIDNEY/BLADDER PROBLEMS AND IT HAS BEEN A VERY LONG, VERY DIFFICULT STRUGGLE FOR JOSIE AND FOR US. WE HAVE HAD MANY, MANY SLEEPLESS NIGHTS AND MANY, MANY TEARS. HOWEVER - THANKS TO PETSECURE WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO HELP THIS LITTLE GAL AND SHE NOW - AT 10 MONTHS OLD - VISITS A NURSING HOME EVERY WEEK WHERE THE RESIDENTS JUST ADORE HER. PETSECURE HAS PAID EVERY CLAIM WE HAVE SUBMITTED - PROMPTLY AND JUST AS THEY SAID THEY WOULD IN THEIR PAMPHLETS. THEY HAVE BEEN VERY HELPFUL, VERY SUPPORTIVE AND THEY HAVE ALLOWED US TO OVERCOME THIS TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. WE HAVE SPENT WELL OVER $10,000.00 ON JOSIE AND PETSECURE HAS PAID EVERY PENNY THEY CLAIMED THEY WOULD. FROM OUR EXPERIENCE - IF YOU ARE QUESTIONING SIGNING UP WITH PETSECURE - DO IT!!!! WE HAVE NOT HAD PET INSURANCE IN THE PAST - WE ALWAYS WILL NOW - THANK TO PETSECURE!!!

I have had Petsecure for my 6 year old Brittany Spaniel and he has been insured since birth. Recently, he had a whole host of difficulties including some very expensive treatments and diagnostics including a MRI and a sampling of his brain fluid. At any rate, he was diagnosed with Episodic Epilepsy. Petsecure has consistently been helpful and I have not had any problems with them paying out claims. Their web portal is decent and they process claims at a reasonable rate. I've had to call the 800 number before and they were excellent there as well. My deductible is $300 / year currently and I pay about $57 a month at 6 years of age.

They paid my dogs claims (80%) and then moved my diductable to 50% I personally don't think that is right. If you use their insurance they will penalize you with stupid diductables. So one must wonder if $70 a month is really a deal? I will let you be the one who decides.
