Thank you for saving Mattie

My 7 month old kitten developed cystine crystals when he around 5 months old. This is caused by a birth defect in his kidney. Mattie had to be catheterized many times to remove these rare crystals. He has been on so much medication to help him with this and control his pain. To see my baby on the floor with his back legs stretched out behind him and his front leg straight out in front while his little body went in spasms, broke my heart. A few days ago he had another episode of a urinary blockage. His doctors managed to pass a catheter and release the crystals but a few hours later he block up again. This time they could not pass a catheter through. Things were not looking good for my baby. The last resort was to air lift Mattie to P.E.I to Atlantic Veterinary Hospital. After many tests, Mattie went into surgery to have an opening created above his anus so he can pee without getting blocked. If I didn't have Pet Secure behind me, my baby would be dead. I could never afford the surgery that Mattie had to go through today. Mattie will remain in intensive care for three weeks and hopefully will be coming home to Newfoundland after that. I know the surgeons hands did the miraculous work on saving Mattie, but none of this would have been possible without Pet Secure. You may have insurance and never use it...but you could fall in to a situation like ours and then what? I would highly recommend Pet Secure to every one who has a pet. When I called Pet Secure the staff at were genuinely

Bogus pre-exiting conditions

I tried PetSecure for 6 months. It was a constant fight regarding my dog's so called "pre-existing" conditions. They were not reading my vet's records correctly and as hard as I tried they would not take the time to re-read the documents. Finally when they refused a claim for a condition they had already paid for, I cancelled. They later reexamined the claim and paid the amount. Also, from a letter I received from them, they do not recommend yearly dental cleaning however their brochure states that they pay for this. Since they do not listen to their clients, I will move on the Trupanion.

Frenchie puppy

Just compared Petsecure premium rates to Trupanion, I will be paying about $50 less with PetSecure. At first I thought I was paying too much for pet insurance, but judging by reviews about Trupanion's initial low rate with a HUGE hike, I thought I'd best just stick with my current insurance company. I enrolled my frenchie with PetSecure right after his first puppy exam at our vet. Last month (9months old) he started throwing up, bloody poop, water-like diarrhea (sorry for being so descriptive) and had to visit our vet twice. Each time with different medication and vet check up fees. The vet bill came to almost $300, just filed for a claim and according to my online PetSecure online account, it is being processed and I will be expecting $200 back. I gave this rating an 8 as I can't judge on the amount of time it will take for me to receive the cheque. However, I find that by offering plan members access to an online account where they can check the status of their application makes it very accessible to someone like me who works full time and have little time to make a call to get the status of a claim. The online account also provides you with pre-filled out claim forms to save you more time, so all you have to do is bring the claim form to your vet and have them deal with the rest. I pay about $55/month knowing that I would never have to think twice about providing my pup with the best vet care!

Bad customer service

Have a policy with our dog - no problems. Opened one for our cat April 4th. Wanted it billed April 7th, so we made that change online. They billed two premiums: one on April 4th, one on April 7th! Billed again on May 7th! Sent an email, and they apologized and said they would take the next payment in July. As promised, no payment was taken in June. July arrived, and they took another double payment! They now a had 5 premiums for 4 months of billing. Wrote again and called: they refused to remedy the extra month billed and said the next payment would be due August 7th, and we'd just be paid a month in advance throughout the life of the policy! When I became angry and said I would cancel, they didn't seem to care at all. I've asked them to cancel the cat's policy; I may follow suit with the dog. Absolutely disgusted with them.

Just in the nick of time...

We signed up our ten-week-old pup Cleo for a free Petsecure trial from our vet. The 48-hour waiting period after they faxed our application ended on a Friday night...and first thing Saturday morning, we had a rapidly declining Cleo at the vet with what turned out to be Parvo. She was hospitalized for five long days and nights of excellent veterinary care, and after submitting extra medical records (and a long postal strike), today we received our cheque totaling almost $1300. Cleo has made a fast and thorough recovery, so of course, we are very thankful, but are considering other insurance companies due to the disparate monthly rates. Petsecure and Purina Care are underwritten by the same company, but the monthly rates for their premium plans differ by over $20. Whatever company we choose, we were certainly glad to give Cleo a fighting chance without the stress of the mounting bills.
