Pets Plus Us | Pet Insurance Review

I could not have afforded to pay for pet care bills without my PetsPlusUs insurance plan.

I had a large expenditure coming up so I went the pre approval route. When I called I was told 10 days to get the funds back. It took a longer time than some of my other smaller claims. When something is pre approved it should be almost instantaneous. Also wish there was a way to direct bill and pay the difference. Overall it has been a very positive experience with the claims.

When I adopted my dog, I got PetsPlusUs from the breeder. I must say, I was in love with the insurance the first year. I paid the most complete coverage. They were fast and cordial in the reimbursements. Last year my dog had to undergo surgery due to 2 canine extractions. That's when I first understood the plan wasn't complete as they sold. 4k cost went from my pocket. In the same year, I tried to add dental with them, and they didn't have it. I mentioned I would need to have a dental for her or cancel the policy. Basically, I heard that "up to you if you want to cancel the policy and lose the pre-existing coverage". That was when I felt this whole scheme of good and fast reimbursement also meant getting you stuck with bad long-term service and coverage. Today I discovered that they do not accept dual insurance, so the dental coverage I got elsewhere for my dog will need to choose either to stay with them or leave. All this because I informed them I had already received reimbursement from another insurance plan and they didn't have to fully reimburse me. Long story short, if you have a chance to find another insurance plan, run a move away from them.

Pets Plus Us gives you your exclusions up front and approves the majority of claims without issue if they are not related to existing conditions listed up front. They are a bit pricier than most insurance, and do not have direct pay (3 week turnaround on claims) but I love the peace of mind of knowing that my claims will likely be approved in a reasonable time. This is in contrast to my usual experience with insurance companies of all kinds! Highly recommend the peace of mind of pet insurance, and if you can't afford PetsPlusUS, just get anything you can afford! It is so sad when owners can't pay for emergency care or cancer care for their pets and consider humane euthanasia instead. Everyone should be insured and it should be considered a matter of ethical pet ownership if at all feasible to the owner.

I’ve been with Pets Plus Us since getting my Puppy. I have made very few claims in the past 12 years.They’re slow to reimburse. My vet doesn’t have their claim forms, hence I have to take the form home & apply for my reimbursement. They are always asking for more details from the vet, which is a delay tactic. Holding my payment longer than necessary. I would not recommend this Company.
