AVOID AT ALL COST, or it will cost you!!!
If I could give less than 1 star, I definitely would! Save yourself the heart ache, frustration, and money and deal with a different insurance company - I certainly regret my decision to go with Pets Plus Us!
A few weeks ago our 7 year old chocolate lab began drinking more water and having to urinate more frequently than usual - NO other symptoms (no fever, normal appetite, normal activity levels). Took him to our vet immediately (symptoms started on a Saturday and we had him to the vet by Tuesday morning - their first available appointment) - after a rectal exam, blood work, x-rays and an abdominal CT scan, it was determined that he had cancer in an anal gland which had spread into some lymph nodes. I asked my vet what he thought about likelihood of coverage... we had to make a decision about how to proceed. Our vet admitted he had never dealt with this particular company before and certainly couldn't speak on their behalf, but based on experiences with other insurance companies and the fact that there is NOTHING in our dogs medical history associated in any way with this cancer, he said he'd have an issue if our claim were to be denied. A claim was submitted for the diagnostic invoicing and emergency surgery was booked with a specialist to remove the cancer and hopefully save our beloved dog's life...
Today I received an email showing the submitted amounts, noting $0.00 reimbursement and an explanation that "we are unable to reimburse your treatment expenses for Perianal Adenocarcinoma as this medical condition is pre-existing to the inception of your policy"... We have NEVER had ANY vet provide medical advice regarding anything to do with cancer and our dog has NEVER received treatment for, nor displayed signs or symptoms of this illness prior to 3 weeks ago.
Don't be mislead by their website which specifically notes that CANCER is a covered illness and lists diagnostics, illness and surgery under "What's covered?"... We've never had any previous issues related to this cancer diagnosis and yet here we are being denied coverage(also note, cancer is not on our list of exclusions which was provided after coverage / payments began)!
I can't even begin to explain how devastating this is - it has truly added exponentially to what is already a sickeningly stressful time for us!
