Overpriced, Opaque, and Hard to Reach — Save Your Money

I paid over $2,000 out of pocket for my cat Wasabi's dental procedure. When I submitted the claim, I included a detailed explanation supported by my veterinarian's own assessment. The denial I received back didn't engage with a single point I raised — it was a generic, templated response that showed no evidence anyone had actually read my submission. Getting any kind of follow-up has been a nightmare. Online chat and email go nowhere — responses are slow, vague, or simply don't come. I haven't even bothered calling because I already know what that experience looks like. To make matters worse, this policy is riddled with internal fine print that you simply won't catch unless you read every line with a magnifying glass. I previously had coverage through Nationwide, and they covered things without all this bureaucratic runaround. Pets Best is significantly more expensive — and delivers significantly less. Expensive premiums. Hidden limitations. Templated denials. No real customer service. I am furious, and I want other pet owners to know what they're signing up for before they commit to this policy. I am currently in the appeals process. I will update this review with the outcome.

Pets Best Holds High Ratings Here

Pets Best Pet Health Insurance has some of the BEST support staff! Anytime I have needed to call for assistance I have encountered a friendly and knowledgeable individual. I thank them each time for finding resolution in one single phone call. The claim filing process is simple if the system is working correctly. On occasion they have required medical records from our dog’s Veterinary office before they can make a conclusive determination on a claim. This adds time between the claim submission and reimbursement (if the claim is reimbursed). In most cases our claims have been reimbursed promptly and efficiently with the reimbursement being deposited directly into our bank account. Thank you, Pets Best, for doing such a good job in covering a percentage of the Veterinary expenses incurred by our dog. ~ Mary Teresa

AI ruined Pets Best

They used to have great customer service. Now every claim is read incorrectly and you have to follow up to get things covered. Everytime they tell me it is the program they use to auto read the invoices now and that they have to get it to a real person. After 2 years I’M DONE. I’m putting my younger cats on a different plan that doesn’t have so many issues processing invoices. I don’t care if it is “fast” for the initial review, if it is always incorrect and takes months to fix.

Excellent service. Highly recommend

We have had Pets best for the last 5 years to insure out 2 dogs. The claims filing process has been super easy. Most recently, they processed two claims for us in under a week. The explanation of benefits is easy to understand. They have always been great to work with. It is so reassuring to have the peace of mind that our babies are insured in case of the unexpected.

Puppy Insurance—Pets Best

"I was having a hard time deciding which pet insurance to buy for our new puppy. I finally decided on 4/19 to go with Pet's Best. I added on to the plan to include wellness coverage. Her appointment was on 4/20. I submitted the bill right after her appointment and was super surprised when I got an email that evening saying the claim was processed. I received the payment on 4/24. It was a flawless, very easy process. "

Monthly Cost

$6 and up, depending on your chosen plan.

Coverage

Accident and Illness plans with optional reimbursement levels of 70%, 80%, or 90% after the deductible. Flat Rate Accident coverage for $9/month for dogs and $6/month for cats. (Available in most states). Two optional Wellness plans to cover routine care. 24/7 Pet Helpline, powered by whiskerDocs is included on all policies. The pay-out amount is based on your actual vet bill. Reimbursements are sent directly to CareCredit credit card when chosen as your default reimbursement method. Choose to have your eligible claim payment reimbursed directly back to your CareCredit card.

Payout Limits

$5000 -Unlimited annual limit, depending on your chosen plan. Unlimited lifetime limits.

Deductible

$50 – $1,000 annually.

Age Limits

Pet must be at least 7 weeks old to enroll. Pets Best does not restrict coverage or availability for older pets.

Waiting Period

A waiting period refers to the amount of time after enrolling before your pet is eligible for coverage. Waiting periods vary by the type of coverage and start on the effective date of your policy. Once met, waiting periods are waived for continuous, uninterrupted policy renewals. Pets Best offers some of the shortest waiting periods in the industry following the policy effective date. Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered. Elective and preventive procedures are not covered.
