Healthy Paws has been a dream to work with. My dog Felix was born with a complete cleft palate and lip, and only one eye. He’s also got an internal organ on the wrong side! He’s a very rambunctious Labrador Retriever who gets into everything he shouldn’t. So far, he’s had a rock and two stuffed animals removed from his stomach, and that’s only his emergency surgeries! He requires maintenance on his cleft surgery frequently, as well as multiple prescriptions. Healthy Paws has made it possible for him to live a full life, as close to normal as Felix gets. The process for submission is beyond simple, and reimbursement happens quickly. I cannot give them a higher recommendation.
Dump Healthy Paws. My premium went from 74 monthly to 107 monthly for my 8 year old mixed bread dog, who has been very healthy. When I took out my policy about 7 years ago I was told the age of the dog was not a factor and to expect rate increases of about 3-5 %. Yeah, right. If I knew at the time Healthy Paws MO was to get premiums for younger, healthy pets that don’t have many claims and then make the premium so expensive you can’t afford it when your dog really needs the coverage I never would have signed up. I canceled it and now put that money into a separate account. Yes, I could afford 107 a month if I really wanted but what will the premium be when my dog is 14? I saw what they are doing and it is unethical. They force older pets off the system knowing that they are likely going to have health issues at that stage in life. Don’t fall for it if you are considering pet insurance.
We have lost two beloved labs, mother and baby, in six months. The hole in our heart is huge. Our vet bills for both was massive. In both cases we would have honestly made the same decisions. They were family and we would have tried everything to keep them with us but the insurance was a blessing. But what amazes us is the speed at which the claims were processed. In one case we submitted a claim for over $10,000:and the claim was approved the following day! What pet insurance does that? We are blessed to have had Healthy Pets and will continue to use them.
BUYER BEWARE:
I enrolled this morning, and the quote that was generated gave me a price for a plan that was supposed to give an 80% reimbursement, only have $250 deductible, with no max payout limits. However, once I finished setting up payment info and creating my account, I decided to take a look at the policy details. The plan that was given to BOTH my pets was only 70% reimbursement, had a $500 deductible, and no mention of no max payouts (which I assume means there's probably a fairly low cap on the maximum payout as well).
In short, a totally different plan from the one I paid for. Called customer service, was hung up on. Called again for a supervisor, and he told me the one they were enrolled in, the lower tier, was the only plan available. Excuse me- probably a silly question on my part, but if the 80% plan wasn't even available for my pets WHY DID YOU ADVERTISE AND OFFER IT TO ME? I believe that they are intentionally defrauding their customers. Please consider other insurance. Customer service was booty, too.
EDIT: I want to respond to their response so everyone can see and isn’t fooled. All of the info they described- my zip code, pet age, etc. was entered prior, rendering their response totally useless. The issue, to be clear, is that after generating my quote, selecting the plan, and making payment, I was automatically shifted to a lower, less desirable plan but still paid the same premium that was quoted for the higher plan, Do not fall for their attempts at misguidance in the above reply, I have photo and video evidence of the FRAUD that is occurring from this business.
