Best.Idea.Ever

Purchasing pet insurance was the best idea I ever had, and I couldn't be happier with my choice of provider. I spent a lot of time reviewing different companies and reading reviews, and it was ultimately reviews like this that made me choose Healthy Paws. I wanted a company that could help me manage my crazy puppy. And I found one! I've filed a few claims since starting my plan less than a year ago, and I've been satisfied with the way each one was handled. First, I want to say that I did appreciate their pre-existing check. All I did was send all of my medical records in that my dog had incurred and they promptly responded telling me what was and was not considered preexisting. Maybe I should preface all of this by saying that my dog manages to get into things and do things more than any other dog. Loves eating things he shouldn't and playing places he shouldn't. He had parvo when I first got him, so obviously if he got it again that wouldn't be covered, and he had it before I purchased pet insurance. He also was prone to eye infections and so that was considered preexisting as well. Other than that he was cleared. My first two claims were simple ear infections, and as promised they reimbursed me for my level of reimbursement except for the exam fee, received a check within a week. The second claim was more of an emergency. There were a few symptoms that bothered me and I ended up having to take him into the urgent care after hours on the weekend. He ended up hav

Healthy Paws' Service Bowled Me Over

When I adopted Daisy (my sweet 10 pound Shih Tzu/Maltese mix) a year ago, I asked all my friends what pet insurance they recommended. No one liked the insurance carriers they had for their dogs. So I did my own research and was drawn to Healthy Paws as a company founded by pet lovers who wanted to do things a better way. And the simplicity of the plan coverage and language was irresistable. Because Daisy is young (now just 2yrs) and healthy, I was looking for protection against any big events ahead. This past year she had a series of eye injuries (corneal ulcers)and we finally learned that both eyes had many tiny wayward lashes growing inside the eyelid rims, irritating her eyes so much that she pawed them or rubbed her face along furniture, increasing the injury. The cryo laser surgery required a general anesthetic and was a nerve wracking proposition, but Daisy came through it really well and we are hoping this is a permanent fix. The claim I filed (via email) for an ER visit and the surgery that followed was quite large and I wasn't sure what the reimbursement would be. Healthy Paws astonished and thrilled me with the next day claim processing response and notice of very substantial reimbursement check en route. As this was my first experience with pet insurance, I could only wish my own healthcare insurance was half this good: the speed, service, professionalism and coverage made this such a positive experience.

Super Quick

Healthy Paws was super quick with a response to my claim. I filed my claim by email and had a response by the next day indicating that my claim would be paid. The check arrived in the mail within two weeks. My only issue with Healthy Paws was that I did not understand that my policy did not emphasize enough that HP does not cover vet exams even when the pet is admitted for treatment. I can't say that I was willfully misled by HP. I just believe it would be helpful to their customers if they emphasized that limitation. I have the 90% coverage policy. The vet exam limitation reduced the amount I was reimbursed to about 75% of my total costs. Still, I like Healthy Paws and would recommend that pet owners give them serious consideration.

Top Notch Coverage, Concern, Responsiveness

Our experience with Healthy Paws has been nothing but superb! They are helpful, responsive, and, after checking many plans, we found they offer a superior approach to pet healthcare. It's clear their first concern is our pet's well being and their mission to help homeless animals as well as to support good care for pets with homes is simply terrific.
