Healthy Paws | Pet Insurance Review

My dog Wilson was diagnosed with lymphoma in January of this year. We got a quote for chemotherapy of $13,000. HealthyPaws has covered 90 percent of qualified expenses (pretty much everything except the examination fee), no questions asked. We went from mourning the imminent loss of our best bud to helping him recover. He's as happy as ever, now. And we get to treasure the rest of our time with him. HealthyPaws also covered his stomach surgeries when he ate rocks. I didn't expect to have a dog who routinely needs emergency care, but HealthyPaws has allowed us to overcome those obstacles. I really can't say enough about how simple and important this insurance has been for my family.

I've had a policy with Healthy Paws for five years, paid about $3,500 in premiums, and had one small claim. Because of a banking SNAFU and an unannounced Healthy Paws premium increase, Healthy Paws was unable to electronically collect the monthly premium on my policy. Healthy Paws immediately notified me of cancellation of my policy - no warning, no outreach, no grace period. I corrected the banking SNAFU and tried to contact Healthy Paws ten times, some by phone and some by email, but without connecting, for over a week. No replies to email, and the outgoing phone message said they weren't answering phone calls because of a "weather event." They had the wherewithal to immediately cancel my policy, notwithstanding the "weather event," but not to respond to my inquiries about policy reinstatement. Enough! I'm canceling this policy that has been so lucrative for Healthy Paws, but which they cannot service with even minimal customer service.

This company increases prices every year. I started insuring my two Shih Tzus four years (2015) ago with Healthy Pet. At that time, my plan premiums were a reasonable $67.80 for both pets. In May 2019, my premiums will be 66% higher than in 2015 to a whopping $102.10. Worst yet, this is the highest rated company of all the ones I checked: This is not about keeping up with inflation, which would be understandable, this is about GREED! I plan on upping my emergency fund by $20K, and as soon as I do, I am dropping Healthy Paws and never looking back. DRM

My cat needed emergency surgery on a weekend. Not only was I terrified for my pets life but was concerned about the huge medical bills and my coverage as I had never put in a claim before.
