Healthy Paws has come through for our family in a big way twice in the last 18 months when our beloved XL 4 1/2-year-old German-Anatolian shepherd cross had to have TPLO surgery. The bills were over $12,000 for both times combined. It was great to be able to focus all our energy on our boy's recovery instead of worrying about coverage and reimbursement. Healthy Paws has been awesome from the very beginning - covering his joint supplements, allergy meds, etc. with its quick and easy online claim submission process and very quick turnaround time to process claims. What is touching is the genuine, non-computer generated email we get from Tim inquiring after his recovery. We've submitted so many claims over the last few years (big dog - big expenses!) and we've never had any problems ever. The peace of mind is priceless and we appreciate the personal, caring service we receive.
Healthy paws was amazing, from the ease of submitting claims to the prompt and accurate payment of reimbursements. I’d absolutely recommend.

Great claims experience!
After I spent thousands of dollars getting my dog's broken toe fixed, I looked into pet insurance. I had only heard of VPI, and I wasn't impressed by the kind of coverage they offered (at the time, I have no knowledge of what their current policies cover). In my research I looked at things like what was covered and what the limits were. My main objective was not to cover ordinary expenses, but to be able to make decisions about major health care options without having to worry too much about cost.
I ended up with Healthy Paws, because it covered everything I wanted covered and the coverage was unlimited.
My dog has been covered for six years and is now 14. I've only made a few claims, but the there have been two major incidents that ran into thousands of dollars. Most recently, she spent almost a week in ICU, had an array of tests, procedures and medications and was discharged with a glucose monitor. The total was about $15,000 (and there will be more, with ongoing treatment). I was so relieved to be able to make decisions about her care without cost being a factor.
The claims process is easy: I just uploaded the invoice from the vet to their site. I got emails updating me on the status, and the first claim was paid within three weeks (direct deposited into my checking account); the follow-up claims were processed even more quickly (presumably because they already had her medical records from the first claim). There were no questions or issues. The only other contact was when they emailed me asking me how she was doing.
One of the vets who cared for her told me she also has Healthy Paws, and that they will sometimes do a pre-approval so they will pay the vet directly. This could be a factor if you don't have the cash (or enough credit) to pay the vet and then wait to be reimbursed.
My next dog will be covered by Healthy Paws from puppyhood!

Absolutely most incompetent and dysfunctional company I have ever dealt with
Over the years their wait times have become longer and longer, their claims processing have become more and more dysfunctional, and their customer service IQ has steadily dropped. More specifically, I re-signed up with them approx 45 days ago to give them another chance after getting a new puppy. In that time I have submitted two very small, fully vetted and verified claims directly from my State licensed veterinarian. One of them was initially denied for being "pre existing". After making 4 separate phone calls, each one 1.5-2 hours of being on hold (I have phone records to prove this) I finally spoke to several claims reps all whom transferred me all over, and each somehow found a way to be more rude and posses a lower IQ than the one before. One of the reps, was able to see that their claims department simply did not read the claim properly, and put a label as "pre existing" when it was in fact not true. That rep assured me that the supervisor for that claims processor would be contacted as this was an obvious error on their part, and that claim would be taken care of "immediately".....well 2.5 weeks later...another 3-4 phone calls (each one being on hold 1-2 hours, and ending with arguing with multiple people who probably cant spell "claims"), and the claim is not processed (neither is the second claim that I sent in in the interim). Healthy Paws is rude, unprofessional, incompetent, lazy, and manipulative. Additionally, they are committed FRAUD because customers are submitting legitimate claims and these customers are not being paid because Healthy Paws is LYING and making up non existent reasons to deny the claim (after of course making them wait on hold for hours and hours).

Relieved
My two year old lab mix had to have foreign body surgery which would’ve cost my husband and I close to $5,000 without pet insurance. Luckily we have Healthy Paws and they processed our claim in less than 10 business days. Everything that their policy states was covered at 90%, after our annual deductible. I’m very glad we signed up for Healthy Paws when we first adopted our pup. The monthly premiums are reasonable based on the coverage and their customer service is excellent.
