How to Save Money at Lake Lavon Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

What a wonderful experience! My big dog and small rabbit both get care here after moving from out of state. My dog used to be terrified of the vet but he loves it here! They are so caring and considerate of getting them taken care of. I love the affordability of the care plan, and the online chat option rather than adding another phone call to my to do list. Definitely give them a try!

I will never go anywhere else. We have been coming here for awhile. However, my recent experience solidified my love for this office. My beloved Rottweiler recently had a life and death illness. I had to take him to an emergency vet in the middle of the night, but transferred my baby first thing in the morning to Dr. Lamping. He did not take advantage of my situation but was honest and spent the time to talk to me about the best options for my baby. Even talked to me about different options when I couldn’t afford the first option. You can truly feel his love of animals and wanting to help. The office staff is equally caring and compassionate. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Dr. Lamping and his team for everything they did for Brock. I know because of them I had at least one more Christmas with my boy, and that is priceless.

The only place we take our pups. Best Vet ever. Edit: Now, we have 7 dogs. Still the ONLY vet i trust in the Collin County area. Super thorough, very knowledgeable, and highly recommended. (Im extremely picky who i trust with my dogs.)

I took my Pandora there the minute I adopted her a few years ago. She already had a lot of health issues that needed attention. She became a regular patient due to her condition. They treated my girl so good. Dr.Lamping is amazing. He explains everything thoroughly and answers any questions that you may have. The techs/assistants are great as well. They are quick to respond to emails and phone calls. When the time came to make the best decision for my Pandy, Dr. Lamping was very thoughtful in explaining my options and the process was not rushed. I only have my girl in my heart now, but when the time comes that she sends me another one to love, I will most definitely come back to Lake Lavon Animal Hospital. Thank you to Dr. Lamping and all the staff for caring for my girl in her time of need.

We began bringing our pets to Dr. Lamping shortly after his clinic opened in 2013. Since then, we've had multiple dogs who have been treated over the years for various dental issues, heartworm, chronic health conditions, joint problems and regular wellness visits. Dr. Lamping never rushes and spends quality time with us and our pets each visit, even on days they've had emergencies and are a bit behind schedule. He is incredibly thorough, knows our pets history well, explains things as deeply as you want him to, and always returns calls or follows up on the things he says he will. Perhaps what I appreciate most is that he has no ego, unlike some other vets we've seen in the past. He just wants to treat the animal, and will admit when something is beyond his area of expertise, consult with specialists he knows for personalized treatment plans, or refer out when needed for more specialized care. He has even called a drug manufacturer for us in the past when our pet had a seemingly odd reaction to a medicine. His entire office is also great with our male dog who definitely does not like vets. This office won't be the cheapest option for pet care, but the care plan discounts help, and you get what you pay for.
