How to Save Money at Parker Road Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My mother took her three fur babies to Parker Road Vet for many years before she moved out of state about ten years ago. I visited once for an ER visit, and Dr. Abraham took such great care of us and our fur baby at a time when we didn’t have a lot of funds. He even made a cast out of the other half of one he had from another patient, saving us both money and stress. That level of care stuck with me. Fast forward ten years—I’ve moved back to Texas, and last night, we had an urgent issue with one of our fur babies. His belly was swollen, hard, turning black, and he was constantly panting and struggling to breathe. Dr. Abraham and his team got us in right away. The X-rays showed a few concerns, but nothing major, and while we await bloodwork, Dr. Abraham even plans to check on the results Monday—despite it being Spring Break when his office is supposed to be closed. He has other patients he wants to check on too, which just shows his genuine care and dedication. The entire Parker Road Vet team—from the Lipita and the front desk to the techs and Dr. Abraham—are truly wonderful. They take the time to explain everything and always check for the most effective yet affordable way to diagnose and treat pets. It’s clear that their focus is the well-being of animals, not money. Having lived in multiple states (FL, KS, OK, TN) due to work, I’ve been to many vets, and Parker Road Vet is by far the best. Even after all these years he remembered my Mom me and our babies. BEFORE looking at the files and such when I mentioned my Mom. My last name is even different now, so I was worked in as a new patient, not even an existing one, and he still remembered us when he came in the room.

They were able to see my cat the same day when I suspected an intestinal blockage. Great care and customer service. I could tell both the vet and the tech genuinely care about their patients. Great outcome, cat is fine.

I’ve been bringing my dogs to this veterinary hospital for years, and I can’t speak highly enough of the care we’ve received. Dr. Kerin has been our trusted veterinarian for both of my Sams — the first for 14 wonderful years, and now my current dog. He is not only highly skilled and knowledgeable, but also deeply compassionate. The entire staff is friendly, professional, and truly dedicated to the well-being of every animal. I’m so grateful to have such caring and capable people looking after my pets.

I absolutely love Parker Rd Veterinary! The staff is incredibly caring and thoughtful, and they always get you in on time without long waits. Doctor Myers is extremely compassionate and even follows up a few days later to check on my cat and make sure she’s doing well. Their dedication and genuine care mean so much. I highly recommend Parker Rd Veterinary to anyone looking for top-notch care for their pets!

LOVE this place… given a referral by another vet when my old boy (Moosie) was so bad and we needed a new doctor to see him… there was only one vet I didn’t absolutely love, but the rest, especially Dr. Abraham… top notch. Staff is friendly and always helpful no matter the ask. No pressure selling, no guilt…. They listen to you! Just moved my Mom’s dog here from Breckinridge.. and tho super nice folks over there, I felt they were more expensive. We need good vets at good rates!!! I work hard for my money.
