How to Save Money at Briarwood Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We’ve always had positive routine appointments for our cat so when we rescued a puppy we also took her here. Then a few months ago our new pup was spayed through the humane society. She developed an infection and when I called the admin staff advised they’d check with the vet to get her in asap. They called back 30 min later and advised they couldn’t fit her in for a couple days. I called another reputable clinic close by and as soon as I described her symptoms they got her in immediately, performed a procedure and followed up every single day going forward. I do understand clinics book up, and can’t always accommodate last minute appointments. This also was not the result of anything they did, but no one from Briarwood ever followed up to see if she was ok or if she got treatment.

We’ve been with Briarwood since 2019 and we couldn’t be happier with the care we’ve received there for our two dogs. The staff are always so friendly and the vets are very knowledgeable and caring. They take the time to answer all of your questions and I never feel rushed. My dogs get excited to come see the girls at Briarwood and they always get lots of belly rubs and love while they are there. Highly recommend this clinic for your pets!

This vet clinic checks all the boxes! Honest and ethical practice, fair pricing, incredibly outgoing and friendly staff. It is an absolutely pleasure to take my girl here. I cannot recommend them enough. Look at my other reviews, I don't hand out 5 stars very often. Our story: My girl is a sensitive, square headed, stocky blue nose and she can get very skittish when confined. Makes sense, she was a stray and in a shelter in Texas before coming here on a transport truck full of other dogs for adoption. The staff treated her with great care and I really appreciated that. I feel safe handing her over to these folks for a checkup. Riddled with skin problems, allergies, a weird and random lump on one paw, ear troubles, obsessive licking, bum scooting, the list goes on and on. She had been put on Apoquel by another vet (she hated it and made her digestive system go through a loop). I was tired of trying every food on the market from raw to the most expensive kibble and nothing was helping. The team at Briarwood assessed her and the vet listened to my disorganized and stressed ramblings and we came up with a game plan. We would try an antibiotic and probiotic and order in Cytopoint to try. We also continued with a medicated shampoo (Douxo) and some ear cleaner and drops. After a few days my girl was totally better. I reported the findings to the team and they said, great - let's see how she does. We will REFUND you for the Cytopoint and if we don't need to do that we won't. I was in shock and this experience has totally changed my mind about Vets, where previously I had been spending thousands upon thousands of dollars and felt like I was being taken for a ride most of the time. For anyone else who is struggling with pet allergies related to food, try Black Soldier Fly or Cricket dog food (Wild Harrier, Jimmny Crickets) and cut out all treats (even sweet potato chews) for awhile and see how your dog does. I think the food, shampoo, antibiotic and probiotic were the key for us. And call these folks and make an appointment - you won't regret it. Thank you to the whole team for taking such wonderful care of Cece.
