How to Save Money at Barton Grays Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The vet, vet tech, and receptionists are rude, negligent, gaslighters. I will not be returning to this office, I have never felt so unwelcome, and disrespected. They don't care about your time, or your pet. We just brought our cat in for his surgery this morning and they claimed we never made the appointment, they claimed they had never seen me or my cat before, and that they didn’t have a file for him. I had been there on October 9th for a check up appointment, which is when we discussed the dental cleaning. The second we walked into the vet all three were standing at the front and immediately started being incredibly rude, raising their voices and saying “you can’t just show up with your cat and expect an appointment” as if I would randomly show up at 9am and say I have an appointment for dental surgery without actually having an appointment, they were confidently acting like we were at fault and getting angry at us. So we told them what date we originally came in, when we called to make the appointment, what was all discussed. And they all of a sudden remembered us, but they had never made a digital file for us, they only had a paper file that they had misplaced. Then they acted like we were crazy for thinking that they could transfer the bloodwork from our previous vet, even though they said in the original appointment that they could do that for us, and then again said they would get the bloodwork from our previous vet when I booked the appointment over the phone. So today once they remembered everything they said they have to do his bloodwork and then reschedule the surgery. The vet then started trying to strike a deal with my partner over the price of the bloodwork, saying he wouldn't charge us for a checkup, he'd only charge for bloodwork. None of them took any time to apologize to us for the mix up, or miscommunication. It was a waste of time, and money.

You know why his price is cheap? Because he isn’t good and can’t be trusted. I took my two dogs there years ago when I would ask questions which we pay for when we pay vet fee he said “ I ask too many questions” come to find out when I check the other reviews he is rude and says the same thing to other people. So he tells us to google information so why is he a vet? Shouldn’t a vet have knowledge to tell you stuff ? Why tell us use Google then take our money? Don’t leave the room and make sure you watch him do the vaccines. I would never recommend this place or East Animal Hospital to anyone they both are disgusting business practices.

I have a 126 pound lab/pitbull. Very hard to control but was able to have him looked after quickly. The doctor was very good with him while my dog would not stay still and tried to hump the doctor the whole time. Have gotten 4 cats neutered there and 5 to go. Even working 65 hrs a week the clinic makes time to see my pets. Thanks Gray's I will be back next week.

I highly recomend Barton Grace Animal Hospital . Dr Virdi took care of our 2 cats and now he is taking care of our 2 dogs. Both dog spaying procedure were done extremly well. Dogs recovered fast and without complications. Any isses we had with our pets Dr Virdi was spot on with solution. I do have a trust in his competence in caring for animals. Pricess are very resonable and I never had a feeling beeing overchared or never felt that something is prescribed if wasn't absolutely nessessary. Reception staff is very friendly and our dogs don't mind coming to the office knowing that there will be some treats and love from the staff.

Just okay. I didn’t feel the warm vibe I was hoping from a vet. I got my dog neutered here but I think I will keep looking for a different vet for my dog
