How to Save Money at Beattie Pet Hospital - Stoney Creek
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.
How Do You Choose the Right Pet Insurance Provider?
Pet Insurance Review makes it incredibly easy for pet parents to select an insurance provider they feel good about. You can use our handy comparison tool to get the gist of what a company offers. Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
This is our beautiful cuban Kariko kitty rescue. After seeing the vets yesterday here, we knew we wouldn’t have much time. However as nobody could have predicted how soon it would have been. She passed this morning at 6:40 am. Photos are for proof of her beauty. But I wanted to say thank you to the staff who handled us with care yesterday and the Dr who spent her time on the phone for 15 minutes or so with my grieving mom just now. You are all amazing. And your caring conversations and well wishes have uplifted our family in a devastating time. Thank you Beattie Pet Hospital staff

Absolutely DO NOT take your animals to this location. We fear they killed our boy and we are working with out of town vets to determine what actually happened. Reading through the reviews here makes me think my suspicions are accurate. I have spoken to numerous people and the issue seems to be this location and not the other Beatiies locations. I have heard horror stories about this location (unfortunately, not until after our own horror story). Your animals’ medical files are yours (as you paid for it) and I implore you to request them and send them out of town for second opinions. I am currently exploring litigation (which is the reason for my vagueness in this review, but people should know about this place and all of its horror), as our boy should have never met the fate he did, especially at the hands of individuals who do not care for him (or other animals for that matter). Please don’t let them do this to your animals.

One month ago we took our perfectly healthy 6-year-old cat Sirius here after he’d been having focal seizures out of nowhere. 48 hours prior to his seizures we brought him for his annual vaccine, so we told staff we thought it could be a side-effect of the vaccine, and they insisted that it wasn’t. We provided them with videos and photos of our cat having focal seizures and the foam coming from his mouth, and every “Doctor” here said they simply “didn’t know why” this was happening. As a Doctor how do you simply “not know” what’s going on with a cat? They ran several tests on him, they sedated him TWICE in 24 hours to get x-rays and blood samples, and told us all the results were perfectly normal. So what were we to do with our cat who was seizing every three hours once they told us “nope everything looks fine!” if clealry everything is not fine. The Doctor INSISTED on giving us anti-vommitting/nausea meds and we told her SEVERAL times he was not vommitting at all. If we tell you our cat is not vommitting, why then would you prescribe anti-nausea meds?? Because the staff was unprofessional and lacked knowledge in diagnosing our cat with anything or providing any help besides the bare minimum, our poor Sirius only got worse and began having convulsive seizures the next night. My entire family rushed to the vet, we ran every red light to save our boy’s life. The Doctors had him on continuous flows of valium because he was having ENDLESS repeated seizures, and these were the options the Doctors gave us: keep him in the ICU for two nights until they can send him to a specialist all the way in Mississauga who could *MAYBE* figure out what was wrong, and that to keep him in the ICU for those two nights would be $8-10k for one night, let alone two. My family could not afford to spend $16-20k for a specialist to *MAYBE* figure out what was going on with him. Not to mention the Doctor told us that his seizing had gotten so bad that if he did survive, he would be left with permanent brain damage. Our second (and really only) option was to euthanize him, which cost $265 plus tax. Our family was in absolute shambles and so confused as to how these Doctors could see a cat having seizures, and prescribe him anti-nausea medication? So heartbreaking to see people who claim to care about animals completely disregard mine until he’d gotten DEATHLY ill. If they would’ve been better trained Doctors, they would’ve actually done something to try to save his life, rather than shrug their shoulders. When we informed the Doctor we’d be euthanizing him, we thought she was leaving the room to bring our boy back to us so we could say goodbye. Instead, the first thing she did was show absolutely ZERO empathy, and came in with the machine asking for payment. It was incredibly hard to remain civil when this Doctor and her staff had FAILED our cat, and the first thing she does is ask us how we’re going to pay? Are you serious? Not even “I’m sorry for your loss I’m sorry we couldn’t do more.” She heard we were going to euthanize him and immediately ran to that machine to get paid. Overall, with the multiple visitations and tests, we paid $3,200 for this clinic to let our perfectly healthy, young cat die. I can guarantee any other clinic would’ve done more to prevent such drastic and traumatic events from happening. These people absolutely do NOT care about animals, they care more about their paycheques. I still believe he fell ill because of the vaccine he had gotten 48 hours prior to his first focal seizure, but because this place wants to avoid a lawsuit, they’re claiming that there’s no way he got sick because of the vaccine, even though he was absolutely, totally healthy before that.

I called this office yesterday evening because I accidentally double dosed my dog with his phenobarbital. I needed to know how much is the max dose for toxicity and what I should do. This medication is a very commonly used anti-seizure medication for humans and pets so this information is well known. I was directed to call a poison control line which charges $85US to ask a question. I told the gentleman this and got a reply "Well I'm not going to tell you for free". Wow!! If you want a money hungry vet who will gouge you for a pretty easy question. Go here! Because this medication is so common, the information was freely available online and I was not even close to a toxic level and displayed none of the signs of toxicity, so once I stopped panicking about my mistake I was able to figure out what I needed to know. I pray for anyone who needs to count on Beattie Stoney Creek when their pet needs help. I hope you are rich.

I have been taking my first cat here for about ten years. No real issues other than being told a few times she needs this vaccine and that vaccine and when I call to book the appointments suddenly she doesn’t need these vaccines? In the last 7 months, since getting our puppy Weimaraner, I decided to have all of my cats reupdated on their vaccines as well as my dog. As for my one overweight cat, the vet told me she was overweight (ya, I see that…) and said she was constipated which she absolutely is not. She’s an epileptic and seizures as well as excrements out of all ends when leaving the house. The second altercation was when I took our Weil pup for the second or third vaccinations and I asked what the next set are due, how much, and what the vaccinations are so I could put it into my phone calendar. After reading it all back to her she became rude stating that wasn’t what she said in the least bit, meanwhile I was typing everything as she was talking and asking follow up questions. After we got out Weim pup microchipped we were told it is still through 24 hour PetWatch. We were advised this by the Vet and the Vet technician. Both of which lied. After receiving emails from another company Beattie no longer uses I went through hoops to switch my dogs microchip to 24 HR petwatch to keep it consistent with my other pets. Last night, HOWEVER, I took my Weim pup in after eating a plant my phone said was dog safe (which turned out not to be after realizing she was panting heavily. I told the receptionist I’m not calling poison control and paying $85 USD to be given a vague answer as I do not remember the name of the plant. After going to the vet the receptionist was rude that I didn’t call pet poison, although I already stated I’m not, and when seen by vet tech, she stated all of her vitals are fine. Then the Vet came in. A wish version of Jane Lynch with horrible bright pink makeup all over and not groomed at all, (teeth not brushed, white short hair in nots, makeup fading). This rude vet called poison control on her own merit and tried charging us the conversion rate, which after stating there is a Facebook page to look through thousands of pictures of plants poisonous to dogs which could take hours as we cannot remember the name of the plant our pup chewed on, then wait to speak to a botanist and then drive a half an hour to the vet and wait another half hour to be seen. What if it were an emergency. We pay $85 per apt for a health check and not a single vet does such health check, including Wish Jane Lynch. After questioning Wish Jane Lynch while my pup and myself are in distress she says she won’t tolerate my aggressive behaviour, meanwhile I was just asking questions and the validity of her knowledge, and walked out on a poor pup in distress. As I went to the receptionist to ask for a print out of all of my pets medical records to switch vets, Wish Jane Lynch heard and came to me nicely saying Dr. Matt is ready to see you. Dr. Matt and Dr. Cassandra are our preferred Vets and actually care about the animals and do the regular health check ups, heart rate, breathing, teeth and gum health, hearing and ears, checking for dysplasia. Within ten minutes Dr. Matt gave us all of the information we needed. The plant our pup ate had short term effects such as higher heart rate, heavier breathing, and little dehydration. He did an ACTUAL health check, which I have never seen ever. Dr. Matt and Dr. Cassandra are the only two vets I trust with Beattie Pet Hospital and I have specific notes to only see them, and if they’re not at my regular location I can call to see which location they are at so I can receive the best possible service. As for Dr. Wish Jane Lynch, she probably should retake some courses on being compassionate and sensitive instead of walking out on a sick and possibly dying dog. Why on earth did you become a Vet if you do not care about the animals and their humans being stressed out and just asking questions?
