How to Save Money at Cedarbrae Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My dog has been under the care of Dr. Wong since we adopted him. The appointments are always on time, and the vet techs are always friendly, knowledgeable, and great with my pup. We have always taken our dogs to Cedarbrae under the care of Dr. Lavoie and Dr. Wong. My previous dog had a lot of health issues and Dr. Wong was always available to help and support his care, she even helped support conversations with other specialists regarding his care. When he passed, Cedarbrae sent flowers to my home. This just shows the quality of care from the clinic, they don't treat animals as just patients, they show care and compassion with them. Appointments are always easy to book (online). They have an online portal that shows any reminders, upcoming appointments, list of prescriptions with administration instructions and their pricing is fair. If you want your furbaby to be under the best care, I'd recommend you bring your furbaby to Cedarbrae Veterinary Clinic!

Dr. Wong was very professional and delicate when we had to sadly euthanize our old golden retriever. She first examined our dog to found out the issue, was not pushy and suggested all the options before proceeding. We decided to stick with her on the euthanization as I felt she genuinely cared for our animal. I would highly suggest Dr. Wong to all my friends and family.

DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE. Last night we had to euthanize our cat here and the staff acted extremely unprofessional during the process. Our cat was 17 years old with a brain tumour and had lost weight, very weak, very delicate. The vets came into the room extremely fast and immediately started administering a sedative. Barely even spoke to us or our cat. This scared our cat and made her defensive, which caused the staff to put a muzzle on our cat which made her start sneezing uncontrollably because it was too tight, pressing on the tumour on her head. They didn’t care. They then abruptly grabbed our cat and held her while euthanizing her. Didn’t gently speak to her, didn’t let us hold her. We’ve been in animal rescue for 40 years and have never seen a euthanasia done this improperly. If you want a vet that actually cares about animals, don’t come here. Dr. Wong is obviously just concerned about getting the job done. We will be asking for a refund and formal apology. UPDATE: Dr. Wong has completely spun everything around on our family. No apology for how we felt, or how disrespectful she treated our cat. This is a doctor that didn’t even have the decency to have a conversation before immediately beginning the euthanasia process. Literally walked right in and administered the sedative without saying a word. We will be reporting her to the Vet Association and will be advising people in the animal rescue community to stay away from this clinic.

We recently had to say goodbye to my parents beloved cat, Luna, and we were incredibly grateful for the care and compassion Dr. Luc Lavoie and his team provided at Cedarbrae Vet Clinic. Dr. Luc went above and beyond to ensure Luna was comfortable and calm during her final moments. He took the time to explain all options available to us and provided honest, thoughtful guidance that helped us make the best decision for our fur baby. His kindness and understanding made an emotional day a bit easier, and we truly felt supported every step of the way. Thank you, Dr. Lavoie and team, for being there for Luna and for my parents during such a difficult time.
