How to Save Money at Westboro Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I’ve taken my 2 cats here. First was my sweet kitten Benjie who I had recently adopted but after a few hours home showed signs of a respiratory infection. I took him to the vet clinic and he was met with such kindness and joy. The Vet doctor even asked to take a photo with him as he climbed up his legs to get closer. After antibiotics Benji was perfectly healthy. Then my older cat (14 years old) stopped eating ( I adopted her at 11 my first cat) I thought it was a hunger strike unimpressed by her new kitten, brother… it was so much more. I rushed her to the emergency VCA on carling ave and after 3+ hours and $900+ later I believe them after they did an “exam” and pushed for blood work that came back fine. 2 days later she wasn’t getting better she was so thin and I called the clinic desperate for help they were full, but found the time for the vet to see her. With in 30 seconds of looking at her he knew. She had infected teeth. The VCA on carling didn’t even check her teeth! After antibiotics, pain meds then surgery she’s like a kitten again. As well as the vet was willing to use the old blood work to save me some money. I can’t thank the team and the doctor enough for saving her, educating me, and giving me more time with my sweet Baby Girl. I post this now 26/04/24 because I lost my sweet baby Benjie to FIP. When he had seized over night I called the clinic the next morning and the wonderful person I spoke to let me know that they didn’t have availability till the next day but that she thought I needed to take him to emergency due to his symptoms. I probably balled my eyes out on that phone call but I did it. I took him to the VCA at Alta Vista though hesitant with my previous experience with the VCA on Carling they were so kind and helped me make the heartbreaking decision to let him go. When I reached out to the Westboro clinic to let them know that I needed to close Benji’s case, they were incredibly kind and empathetic. I am so grateful for the care that he received from them as well as the life saving care Baby girl received. So please take your animals here. Below I’ve attached photos of Baby girl and Benjie ♥️

Bad for impromptu emergencies. Good for routine appointments. Over the 6 years, they have never been able to see my dog when she was having an emergency. They are too busy with their standard appointments to slot in emergency visits for their clients. Over the 6 years I have tried to get in to see them for an urgent issue 5 times; not once did they make time for my dog. For routine appointments the staff are pleasant and the care is good.

Amazing vet! They work really hard, long hours to help pets and answer any questions. Our dog, Finn, has been going to this vet since we moved to Ottawa in 2021. I am an anxious dog owner because she is like family to me and I want her to live a long happy life! They are always patient with me and incredibly kind, even when I ask a bunch of questions. Finn got diagnosed with a potential insulinoma this summer and during the visits to other speciality/emergency clinics they kept in touch to see how Finn was doing and if they could answer any questions. They are helping her with her treatment now. We are extremely privileged to be able to have the Westboro Animal Hospital team as our primary vet. I would also like to include that Westboro Animal Hospital is not an emergency vet, but they can give you names of some pretty amazing emergency vets in the Ottawa area.

After months of trying to get my dog seen at the clinic we have been going to for the last 2 years, I decided to take a friends recommendation to call Westboro Animal Hospital. I was lucky that they were accepting new pets. The whole experience from start to finish was amazing. I had his medical files switched over and brought my dog in the next morning. We saw Dr.Laite and she was so good with us. She took her time to get to know my dog and went through his medical files. She was gentle and warm. If you are looking for a place that truly cares about your pet and their well being as opposed to larger places which seem more concerned with the money aspect of being a vet, I would highly recommend Westboro Animal Hospital.

They managed to squeeze us in on a busy day, for which we were Super grateful! We live close to it and don't have a car so going elsewhere would have been very difficult. Considering they aren't our usual vet, they were still extremely friendly and took excellent care of our little guy. I can't recommend them highly enough!
