How to Save Money at Toronto Animal Health Partners Emergency and Specialty Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We brought one of our babies in early this Saturday morning because he seemed to have swallowed something that was causing some irritation in his throat. From the initial phone call to the end of the visit, the staff at Animal Health Partners were so kind and compassionate. He was seen almost immediately. The emergency vet who looked at him (I don't remember her name as we were so anxious about our baby!) was very kind and clear when explaining her full assessment, potential diagnoses, and the treatment options available. She also very clearly outlined the costs associated with each treatment option before we made a decision. She didn't make us feel pressured to pick the most expensive and extensive option. This was the best (and hopefully only) experience with an emergency vet we could have asked for. Our boy seemed improved immediately after treatment and is feeling much better now. Thank you, Animal Health Partners!!!

Unfortunately, I had to visit this clinic twice in a month for my girl, Nacho. As stressful and traumatic as the visits were, I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Gendron and Dr. Tsan. They were fast, despite being very busy with other emergencies, they took their time, not once making me feel rushed, they were deeply empathetic and very knowledgeable. I had to say goodbye to my life partner, my best friend, my sweet little Nacho after 16 years and it was unimaginably difficult, but Dr. Gendron showed so much compassion and made the process very smooth. I’ve worked at vet clinics and have had to help others through this but to be on the receiving end was unimaginably difficult. That said, the team made it much less traumatic then it could have been. Thank you everyone who was a part of Nacho’s journey. We love and appreciate you guys. To future clients, yes you may have to wait, yes you may not hear news for a while, but it’s not for lack of caring on their end, it’s because they are so deeply thorough with their patients and they make sure to give everyone the needed attention based on emergency-status. And lastly, yes there is an emergency fee that you might not be charged elsewhere, but these guys take really good care of your fur kids, they’re thorough, kind and knowledgeable. I’ve worked at a practice that was not and you can really tell the difference. Thank you to everyone here, wishing you all the very best in the new year.♥️🐾

My cat got referred here for a CT scan due to having issues breathing since being only a few months old. He was on a path of being treated for chronic rhinitis and a CT was basically the last chance to find something wrong. Dr Gold and the intern we had were great with explaining everything and we went ahead with a CT and scope. She managed to locate foreign material in his nasal passageway and removed it. His surgery took way longer than projected because of the complexity, but I’m very grateful for the time and care was spent on him during his procedure. I got a call right after he was done to explain her findings thoroughly. He was sent home in a blanket from the hospital, and home care was explained well. Multiple follow up emails/calls from his Dr. He’s been perfect ever since. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for great pet care :)

I took my cat Trixie here early in the morning due to her seizures. They saw her immediately. All the staff were very kind and caring. Dr. Greg Kilburn saw Trixie and she was able to get an MRI that same morning. She came home that same day and recovered nicely. Great staff here and lots of communication:)

Compassionate & capable team! Dr. Kilburn operated on my dog for a herniated disk 2 years ago, who had a great recovery. It was a scary time not being sure if he would be able to walk normally & be pain-free again. Additionally, a tonsil mass was discovered during the surgical prep, which was later removed & followed up by Dr. Reynolds. The level of care with explaining the 2 issues & the benefit/risks really helped us feel comfortable with the decisions for both procedures. Now at almost 14, Finn still gets comments on his bouncy, happy walk & is such a joy. We are so grateful.
