How to Save Money at Parkside Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can't thank the wonderful team at Parkside enough for the emense care and compassion they provided to my old girl Lexi and myself when it came to saying our goodbyes. From the time I called, to getting there and being set up in a calming space to spend my last moments with my bestfriend. These wonderful women made sure to prepare me for what was to come. But also gave us time and didn't rush the process of ending our 12 year bond quickly. Thank you Dr. Julie Hansford and Adria for your kindness, care and compassion on the hardest day of my life.

I honestly can’t find the words to express how much I appreciate this office. Dr. Bertrand and the staff went above and beyond to help us in an urgent situation, and showed our cat Hestia wonderful love and care. They are some of the best people I’ve ever met. I’d definitely recommend them to anyone that needs a vet. Added pictures of Her Majesty in case anyone needs a smile. :)

We recently had to put down our fur baby and it was quite possibly the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. All the staff were extremely compassionate and professional. Adria is such an asset to the team. She had experience with our boy as a pup and treated him as if he was her own. Dr. Bertrand was also amazing. Both Dr. Bertrand and Adria were thorough with the explanation of what was happening and supported us throughout the appointment. The professionalism and care the entire team had towards my partner and I and our beloved pup was greater than we could have ever expected. They truly made the best of such an awful time. We have also utilized Parkside for our two cats and each experience has been great.

Since first taking my golden retriever to Parkside as a puppy, the staff and doctors have shown my pet (Hudson) & I with nothing but the highest level of care, compassion, and service. I have understood from the beginning of raising a dog that medical care costs money, and have always felt that the costs to our visits there have been fair, thoroughly explained, and justified for the excellent service provided. On more than one occasion, Hudson has required timely care that the staff have accommodated for in every instance to the best of their ability. Often times, they were able to squeeze him in within 24 hours to get him assessed, and immediately when it was deemed urgent. I believe that this is what any of us could ask for in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital - to show a willingness to do their best for the care of our beloved pet companions. All staff are knowledgeable, helpful, and keen to do their best upon any call or visit I’ve made. I (and certainly, Hudson, too) believe that Parkside is a terrific choice if you are in need in North Bay, and an especially big thanks to the efforts of the folks there. You rock!

Our little Fergie loves everyone and especially Dr. Bertrand. And Fergie knows she is loved too. Fergie has been a patient for 7+ years and never backs up when we enter. Wonderful wonderful clinic, always great help and they don’t shame you into anything that they recommend. As parents to our little girl we cannot say enough good things about all of our experiences. Thank you PARKSIDE you guys are by far the best. Profit isn’t their only prime motive as is the case with other places.
