How to Save Money at Liston Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I believe this veterinary clinic is no longer living up to its former reputation. The name 'Liston' should be removed, as it no longer honors Dr. Liston, who once owned and ran the clinic with genuine care. The friendly, small, 'Mom and Pop' feel has been replaced by a business model similar to VCA Vets, where profit takes precedence over pet care. Upselling has become their primary focus. Last fall, they were incredibly supportive (thank you, Dr. Savannah) when I had to make the difficult decision to put my cat down. However, their approach has drastically changed since then. The receptionist now has a poor attitude, and the clinic's relentless upselling seems to be driven by management. When I sought quotes for bloodwork for my kitten with FIP, they insisted on adding unnecessary X-rays and wanted to charge for a re-exam every time I brought him in for bloodwork, which is entirely unnecessary. His bloodwork results alone are sufficient to assess his health. After pointing out the unnecessary X-rays, they removed them from the quotes. However, after I had already brought my kitten to them for a normal exam to establish a VCPR, they insisted on doing a re-exam each time, claiming the FIP study group was requesting these re-exams. When I asked the study group, they naturally said no. This was clearly the clinic's decision. I contacted the vet to express my dissatisfaction with these unnecessary charges, but it took an entire three weeks to receive a reply. The vet claimed that not performing a re-exam each time would risk sanctions on her veterinary license. Skeptical of this claim, I consulted my new vet, who reassured me this wasn't true. Unfortunately, after pointing out these concerns, I was once again met with silence. This behavior only confirms my suspicion that they were more interested in extracting money from me than in my pet's well-being. Given the substantial costs involved in treating FIP, their actions are particularly upsetting. Vets like this contribute to a growing distrust among pet owners, making them hesitant to bring their pets in for regular exams. It’s disheartening that a place that should be about caring for our pets has turned into a profit-driven operation. Consequently, I’ve decided to leave this clinic and seek care for my pets elsewhere in hopes of finding a place that prioritizes their health over profits.

I wanted to thank this amazing team for their care of my dog Bandit for the last 11 years. I especially want to thank Dr. Lynn Blackburn for her help towards the end of Bandit's life. Fantastic people giving great care. We will be back again one day.

I must agree with recent reviews. We have gone to this clinic for many years and it has gone downhill with new ownership. I’m sure Dr Liston would hate his name associated, as he ran a terrific facility. I booked a dental cleaning for our dog, for which they indicated he had to come for check up first (even though he had one there a few months prior). I arrive for the check up , only to be told they don’t do dental cleaning for large dogs! They looked up our file when booking and knew the dog was large . $150 later and it was useless appt. They wanted us to do lab tests as well , which is ludicrous considering they don’t do the cleaning there! I now have to repeat that step at another clinic who does the cleaning. Frustrating !

Dr Liston and his staff are without comparison in there field. Absolute professionalism, compassion, empathy and understanding for over twenty years as our veterinarian. The one star reviews are obviously foolish and from the pettiest society has to offer. Especially suspect is the fact that one of the reviews are from a worker of another animal hospital in Prescott.

Disappointed and miss Dr Liston! I have had two encounters this year for my dog Bella both ended with the feeling that I had just walked out of a high pressure sales meeting. After spending 1200 on minor appointments, I knew it was time for Bella to leave her vet clinic of 6 years. We will miss the wonderful staff, but I am hoping the new vets will read this review and take it down a notch. There is no need to scroll down to past years( 2019) to look for things to charge people for a half hour before even looking at my pet. Truly disappointed.
