How to Save Money at VCA Canada Burgess Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.
How Do You Choose the Right Pet Insurance Provider?

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I've taken my past 3 dogs here. Compared to other clinics their customer service is superior. They always take time to greet my dogs. My current dog loves coming here just for the attention she gets from the techs at the front desk. You can tell they really care. Dr. Brittany and Dr. Chris are both wonderful with my dog. My dog gets nervous sometimes and they make sure to take it slow to make the dog feel comfortable. Dr. Brittany also helped walk me through some difficult times with my previous dog having cancer, and I really appreciated her care and support.

We found Burgess clinic 3 years ago through word of mouth when my husband told a co-worker how much spaying our dog was going to be at another local vet. When I called for a price, it was less than half the other vet and all of the things that were extra there were included in the much lower cost. From the staff at the front desk, to the vets and quality of care... Everything was superior except the price. Pookie is happy and comfortable going for care. I would (& have) recommend them to anyone. Don't let the very reasonable prices fool you, the care is first class

I agree admin was rudeness I have even seen The communication were very poor between vet and front desk and the front desk blame me instead of going to ask vet . That Asia looking female vet keep trying to sell me the blood test when I honestly told her my cat is old The microchip owner name was wrong and never change it If you want to bring your animal to overseas they are unable to do it and they recommend me go to third party that means it will be extra cost It is all about selling their service Cut my cat nail for almost $50 take 3 mins ? I remember when the old owner was there cut the nail was free Now it is company owned so everything become very commercial If I were you I will not even visit there because all they want is your money

Burgess was fantastic with my girl almost 17 year old cat Missy. My girl had a seizure late at night one night so she was rushed off to an after hour vet. A week later I found her in her litter box having another one during the day so rushed her to her vet clinic witch is Burgess and they took her right in when I got there. We decided to do full blood work and within 20 30 min we had the results that her kidneys were not in good shape. We decided to keep her there for the day for observations, also to do x-rays and a urine sample. At the end of the day while waiting for her to be ready, the doctor called me and asked if I would come in once everyone leaves so we could go over her results in person. After getting in and looking at her results I learned that her heart was very enlarged, fluid around her lungs and kidneys not good. The doctor was amazing while going over the results, and I so appreciated being able to go over results like that in person and not on the phone. We decided she would come home and I would try and get a urine sample to look further into her kidneys. Unfortunately after bringing her home I knew she wasn't her self, I knew she wasn't feeling good 😔. The next day I called and set an appointment to say our goodbyes in 3 days ( Monday). Monday morning I woke up at 4am and she was having another episode. I rushed her to the emergency vet and at 5am she was gone. They contacted Burgess to let them know so I didn't have to. A week later I received a card in the mail from Burgess with the most kindest message, as well as a seed paper to plant and grow flowers for our girl. It was so thoughtful of them to go that extra step, and appreciated more then they will ever know ❤

We have been with this clinic for 14 years now. They are honest, compassionate and really care for both the animals that they treat and their pet parents. We had to say goodbye to our beautiful cat, Sully, yesterday. I can’t speak highly enough of the care we were given at such a hard time. Thank you Dr. Brittany for your honestly, obvious love of animals and your understanding of what it is like to lose a furry friend. You said that I didn’t have to keep saying thank you, but I don’t think a simple thank you is enough. He was not scared, and we had the chance to give him our final gift, of a peaceful goodbye… so THANK YOU to you and all your AMAZING staff. Carole Parker, and family.
