How to Save Money at Fisher Mills Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had to take our dog in 2 days before Christmas. His health was rapidly declining for no reason. They got us in right away and were fantastic. He had high fever and was very dehydrated. They worked quickly and efficiently- giving him the treatment and testing that were needed...but only the testing they felt was needed. We were expecting a vet bill in the thousands - and it was not even close. The fact they took such good care and didn't overcharge us - especially so close to Christmas was truly a blessing. We emailed Dr Gupta at 930 pm a progress report and he emailed us back right away. The next day we had a complementary vitals check to be sure our pup was on the mend before they were closed for the holidays. We are so completely grateful to have this clinic in town! It is bare bones and nothing fancy - but don't let that sway you from the care they provide.

Dr Gupta and all of the staff are amazing . They are so kind to the animals and treat them respectfully. I am so glad that I have come here as they are also reasonably priced. Caring for both the animals and their owners. Thank you so much for the treatment you have given Ollie. I am confident to bring Ottis and Oscar on board here as well. Once again thank you

The folks at Fisher Mills Animal Hospital helped my husband and I when it came to our chihuahua. We’re truck drivers and work +/- 400 kms (260 miles) from where we live and needed to get our dog her rabies shot to cross the border. They kindly helped us out, not charging more than necessary or expecting to do a physical on her when we had a vet at home. They are well priced and were very gentle with our little miss. We’re very grateful for their service :)

My dog has a puncture wound that became infected before I realized she had a wound (She’s long haired). I was unable to get in the same day I noticed it with my usual vet. I didn’t want to wait so I called around and was very lucky to get a last minute appointment the day I called at Fisher Mills Animal Hospital. The whole experience was wonderful. The administrative assistant was absolutely lovely. Kind and helpful on the phone. Took the time to sit down to say hello to my dog when we arrived to put her at ease. Dr Gupta was also very kind and helpful. He took great care of my dog and was adaptable to meet her needs while not overwhelming or upsetting her unnecessarily. He gave me thorough instructions on how to take care of the injury at home and how to administer the oral and topical antibiotics. I found the care to be exceptional and the cost very reasonable. It’s obvious to me that this office has the animals best interests at heart and are focused on providing great care rather than trying to earn as much revenue as possible. Thank you so much to Dr Gupta and your staff! I’m so grateful for your help today!
