How to Save Money at Main Street Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This is the one place my dog tolerated when checkups and care was needed. Sadly no longer have her with us today, but your empathy and care are so appreciated. You also went above and beyond to accommodate my family in her final moments. You really made it feel like it's not routine and regular, and for that we are grateful. If we are ever honored to have another fur baby in the future, 100% will be back.

The best veterinary experience you can ask for. We've had our fair share of trying around as our first vet in another town sold his practice and the care we received completely changed. You see the vet trying to care for your pet and be a friend first...which we had to oddly enough find out is not always the case at places. If you are looking for a place that let's you in on what's best for your pet, make you feel not dumb or silly but informed and cared for, and where you can actually make decisions best for your pet and your family balanced with your affordability and values, Main Street is the place.

Urging all friends and family to please stay clear of this careless, unprofessional so called, “veterinarian.” My mother just recently brought her intact male chihuahua in for a neuter. Upon booking the appointment my mother and her boyfriend expressed with great concern that there male chihuahua was experiencing aggressiveness, only when they attempting to leash him. The vet had ensured my mother that prior to the surgery date medications would be given to ensure a calm, safe environment for their dog. My mother and her boyfriend took their professional opinion and purchased the medication before surgery. When arriving my mother and her boyfriend expressed more concern with fear the medication may not be strong enough, the vet ensured them this would absolutely be sufficient, followed by an extra shot to relax the dog (in which they also paid for.) They took her professional word with great mistake! Well the animal was in for surgery unfortunately one of the vet techs was bit by the chihuahua. This vet then took it upon themselves after the appointment to contact local humane society and now has their chihuahua (with no priors) “RED LISTED This has now put the animal at risk of future euthanasia due to their unprofessional lack of due diligence when caring for a nervous animal. I’m urging people in the community to advocate for their pets who may experience anxiety and avoid this unprofessional experience who poses great risks to animals.

BIG THANKS to the support staff and Vets at Main St. A.H!!!! I truly appreciate the care you provide my Cane Corso puppy. Bishop loves coming to see you every time no matter what the situation. Sadly I feel we come too often due to emergencies but the care, urgency and concern for his well-being is evident! In the last 2 months, myself and Bishop had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Karen, Dr. Paige and Dr. Nancy. Typically I don't like to deal with too many doctors but the care and knowledge they have all provided has been wonderful and Bishop loves you all :)
