How to Save Money at Riverside Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
This place is just amazing. Caring, kind, knowledgeable, compassionate staff and vets. I’ve never felt such positive energy in a vet clinic. Great service and reasonable prices. Victoria, the RVT is a very gifted dog whisperer. It was incredible to watch her with my rescue dog who bonded with her instantly - once that trust was established, procedures and treatments were easy and stress free. No need for muzzles, manhandling or restraints (as was the unfortunate case at our last clinic which traumatized my dog). I’m so grateful I found this wonderful place. I won’t take my dog anywhere else.

We have been bringing our pets to Riverside pet hospital since 2001. We absolutely love the compassion, care and thorough and thoughtful information sharing during every visit for our beloved pets from Dr Korosi and Dr Johnston. This team is phenomenal!! It is clear right from the moment that you step into the office, that this team loves animals and that our pets are in good hands. Victoria has so much passion for animals and my dogs are always so happy to see her, as she really know s exactly how to interact with them. Christine at the reception is always so pleasant and sweet and provides exceptional customer service! Thank you Dr. Korosi and Dr Johnston for always providing us with the best care for our pets and the right information to make the right choices for them!!

My family and I have been clients at this hospital for several decades at this point but we have begun to look elsewhere. While the vet himself is wonderful and you can tell very attentive to animals and their needs and animal behaviour, the past two visits have been a complete shake down that's just plain shameful. The first visit was for my cat, who had a skin abnormality. While she was being checked for this, I was encouraged to update her vaccines. I was TOLD the vaccines were ONLY $11 more, which I of course took to mean $11 added on to the exam and treatment, which was $109, for what I assumed would be a total of $120 (because how else would you interpret that). I said fine, only to be told as we were checking out the bill was over $200. The vet tech intentionally mislead me, after the vet acknowledged that they could see me waffling over the cost of things, into paying more than I was able to. Additionally, I was told AS THE SHOT WAS BEING ADMINISTERED, that my cat would also need a booster shot three weeks later, and that that would run me $85. My dad ended up taking the cat today, and he was also given a shakedown and told it was $135 at the till AFTER everything had been done. We asked for an itemized receipt and still have yet to receive one. We love our pets very much and have always been on top of their care, but this blatant scamming is honestly sickening and feels like the worst breech of trust, especially in the current economic climate. Vets have a reputation for being scammers, and it's very disappointing and hurtful to see this place earn that reputation.

The best pet hospital that you can bring your pets!! I have a house full of geriatric cats and dogs. If it wasn't for this hospital I would have lost them years ago. Victoria is always there to answer ALL my question, and there are a lot!! Cat with kidney disease, another with cancer and seizures, a dog with heart disease, kidney stones and bladder stones, the forth has issues with her liver… there are a lot of meds, appts and emergencies. Victoria takes the time to know you and your babies, it always amazes me that she not only remembers their names, she picks up on their nicknames and uses them…. I think she does it to comfort the furbabies, but I don’t think she realized how reassuring it is for me to pass my baby over to someone that knows them well enough to address them by a name that isn’t registered in chart.

Georgia absolutely loves Riverside Pet Hospital in Ajax. I’ve heard other parents saying their dogs hate going to the vet (not Riverside) but Georgia is pulling on her leash to get in the door! Love the experience she has every time!
