How to Save Money at McKenzie Veterinary Services
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am overflowing with gratitude for McKenzie Vet's staff, and especially to Dr. Paul, for their care and help with my ancient, ailing cat. Thank you for not giving up on Chai & his wellbeing, for your compassion, and for giving me another precious month with him - and for all the support before and after his passing. I will never forget your compassion. After 18 years of pet ownership, this staff has given me the best veterinarian experience I've ever had. McKenzie vet was recommended to me by my Mom, who had been taking her high-needs border collie there for years. As a new client, I brought my 18-year old cat with kidney disease and bad teeth in, and was treated with the utmost respect and care- none of my concerns were dismissed and I found the waiting room to be inviting and excellent for even the most nervous kitties. Dr. Paul Vega could see the writing on the wall, as could I, and his kindness and respect will stay with me for the rest of my life. Despite my cat's obvious signs of decline, he still gave my cat a through examination and found some issues that had not yet been addressed. He sent me home with new medications which worked amazingly for a month or so, and called to check in after a blood pressure follow-up. Unfortunately at that point these last measures met their match in his failing health, and he provided me with further resources over the phone to help me with the hard decision I was facing. Because my cat was in so much discomfort, and McKenzie was booked up on the day his health really took a hit, I ended up having to take him somewhere else to put him down- even so I received a beautiful, heartwarming sympathy card from Dr. Vega and the staff. I would recommend McKenzie to anyone, in a heartbeat. When it comes to pets, I have never felt so heard and cared for by a Vet and a clinic's staff. They're booked up for a reason. Thank you, McKenzie staff!

Thank you to Dr. Reid Danielsen. He saw my senior dachshund ,Julian, today. He was so kind and knowledgeable. I have had many dogs and many different vet visits over the years. This one definitely ranks at the top.

Wonderful services!!! Our pets are a part of our family. We love them so much! And, MVS treats their clients with that in mind. They are kind, caring, and most importantly, good at what they do. I'm only giving them 5 stars because I can't give them 6.

I am so grateful I have found McKenzie Veterinary Services. If you have an anxious pet, this is the place to go!! Without shaming me in any way for my German Shepherd's vet anxiety, they worked with me to do a sedation protocol for her that enabled her to come in and have a comprehensive exam, even getting x-rays done. The team were so thoughtful even in scheduling my appointment at a strategic time of day so the vet, Dr. McNaughton, could spend more time with us because Penny (my girl) was going to take a lot of time to warm up and feel safe. I found the entire process, from waiting for the appointment, to seeing the vet, to liaising about our pet insurance and the bill, to be so compassionate and trauma-informed. They went above and beyond and treated Penn with the same warmth and tenderness I do. Very special place.

Everybody who works at Mckenzie Vet are absolutely amazing ❤️ My partner and I got 2 kittens (brothers) about 5 months ago, and everything from their first check up, shots, and their upcoming neuter, has been nothing but amazing. I am a first time cat owner and both the veterinarians we have seen here were very informative, non judgmental, and seem like they generally care for our little guys. Shout out to Brianne who is the most lovely person to chat with both over the phone and in person. We are so happy we chose Mckenzie vet and cannot wait for them to watch our little guys grow up!
