How to Save Money at Port Coquitlam Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I had the best experience with Dr Greenberg today in my entire life visiting different vets. It was my first time bringing my English Bulldog in to this office and he was so incredibly thorough and informative, we easily spent over half an hour being examined for not only the respiratory issues I brought her for but he also went through all of her additional health problems with me patiently explaining all of the things I needed to know. I can’t say how happy I am to have found him and want to thank you. We will be staying with you and recommending your services to all my friends and family.

I recognize a lot in the other negative reviews. They don't really seem to care much about your animal. They are always ready to upsell you their products though. I took my dog there for 8 years. During that time we never saw the same vet. It was always someone else. Staff turnover is high. Makes you wonder about the place. How can you build a relationship with your vet if you are seen by a different vet every time? And, as another reviewer mentioned, they don't read your pet's file before the appointment. Throughout my dog's life, I had a couple of blood and urine tests done, because she was drinking and peeing excessively. They have never been able to diagnose her and also didn't seem to want to get to the bottom of it. They happily took my money for the tests but could not be bothered to give me a call with the results. I had to chase them down myself for the results. Another reviewer mentioned that they seem to be eager to take your animal to the back. That's my experience too. One time I heard her yelp in pain. That was the last time I allowed them to take her to the back. Why can blood not be drawn or vaccinations be given with the owner present? The last couple of months that I took my dog there were disappointing to say the least. She was a senior and rapidly deteriorating. I got the feeling that we were just bothering them. The very last time I took my dog there, I carried her inside and she was visibly weak, but the receptionist was too busy yapping with her friends at the counter to pay attention to me, the paying customer. You would think that in an animal hospital, when an animal is brought in, in a very poor state, you would ask what is going on and possibly even get one of the vets. This was a new Indian girl at the reception and she seemed to have zero empathy or affinity with animals. Sadly, all the traumatizing incidents have added up and I won't be getting another pet. If you don't own a pet, you also don't need the services of a veterinarian. Problem solved.

Dr. Gaind and Assistant Jennie were wonderful when I brought in my sick cat diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. They were patient discussing the diagnosis and took their time. I didn’t feel rushed and left feeling like my cat Bella got the best possible care. Not to mention extremely reasonable! Special mention to Kerry who took my call for being compassionate and caring. Highly recommend!

We couldn’t get our cat treated here. Her life wasn’t very long as she had a terminal illness. However, we came here for her cremation. They were so attentive and kind, showing great understanding as we went through our pain (our own vet had asked, in an incredibly mocking tone, “Oh, did your cat die? Why?” even though they knew about her illness). Anyway, Even after the cremation, they shared in our sorrow. They sent us a card and a letter, which was such a thoughtful and emotional gesture. We cried a lot, but we were also deeply comforted by their empathy. Perhaps our paths will cross again. We thank all the staff.
