How to Save Money at Fraser Valley Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely love this vet clinic! We’ve been coming since we became pet parents with our dog, Pip, almost 6 years ago. And we now also take our second pup, Penny. The reception staff are always friendly and helpful. The techs are knowledgeable and have great bedside manner. Dr. Bruce is one of the best veterinarian’s on this staff. (Love that she calls our fur-babies “the kids”!) She has performed almost all of the surgeries our girls have needed, and makes sure they’re well taken care of and healthy. We are so grateful to have found this clinic years ago when we were starting our little family. Trust is hard to come by when you’re looking for someone to care for your “kids”, and this place is it! The cost will never bother us, we know we’re getting the best care they could possibly have. Thanks for always taking such great care of our girls! 🩷

Over the last year, I have been to what seems like every vet in the Fraser Valley trying to find some answers. Fast forward to yesterday, I met Dr. Bruce and could have cried... In the best way. For the first time, I truly feel like I found a veterinarian who has my pets best interest in mind. Dr. Bruce is kind, passionate and genuinely cares to get to know you and your pet. My cat Charlotte needed blood work done, and the two vet techs that came to take the sample were also both incredible! I've never been to a clinic where they do the blood draw in the room with you. They held Charlotte and she stayed so still and calm, I couldn't believe it. Overall, I am just so grateful to have found this clinic. The receptionists are also lovely and the costs are very reasonable. Thank you so much!

Thank you saving the life of a very sick abandoned dog tonight when SPCA says it's not their mandate and animal control closes at five. Thank you for taking this little precious one in tonight and giving her a shot at survival. What an incredible clinic. Your love for animals is evident. Warmly, a local dumped dog rescuer

This is a fantastic vet. Not only are they conscientious and caring, but willing to talk through any treatment or medication in detail, and are always up front with any costs or implications of decisions. Three years ago, our (at that time) 15 year old cat had developed serious kidney problems, and they walked us through all of our options, from discussions about his current state of life to what the future would be, and what medications would fit our budget and his needs. We had three more years of a very happy, playful cat, and when he finally succumbed to the disease, they were extremely kind and empathetic as we said our goodbyes. I've had a number of vets over the years, from good to frighteningly bad, and the entire staff at FVAH are all among the best.

I have had great experiences with my cat here. Through the years, the vets and staff have been very kind, knowledgable, and helpful. It has been worth the money to come here and I trust them more than any other vet. They have gone above and beyond and even when it was the end, we knew we couldn't take her anywhere else. Rainbow was also comfortable there. The staff felt like they really cared about my cat, helping her, and giving me all the options without pressure and with transparency. Thank you!
