How to Save Money at Clearbrook Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Beware! I trusted these doctors to do the right thing but instead they performed a surgery on my English Bulldog that was completely not necessary and they also tried to encourage me to get another unnecessary surgery almost $6500 (they offered a discount!!!!) to open his airways! He has no breathing problems whatsoever but they were trying to work on my fear. Luckily I have a regular honest vet now. Be careful of this place.

Would give 0 stars if possible. Everyone is great except for the doctors. He has no care for animals he just wants your money. An estimate was given for our dog for a special procedure and it was tons of money. He give us no reason why we needed to do all of it. He had not check my dog carefully. We went to a second clinic for second opinion we were told that everything on the estimate was not needed and our dog was misdiagnosed. Do not recommend going here unless you want to waste money not have your animal taken care.

My grand puppy had a routine procedure (he was fixed) Everything seemed normal. They wanted to do a full blood panel to insure everything was good, OK no problem we agreed. Blood panel came back completely in normal range. Perfect! He's good to go. A couple days later he started throwing up and in general not feeling well from the procedure. Two days later he started having seizures and his temperature was very high and he was sweating. He also has a very unusual smell coming from around his head area. Call the vet, they said bring him in.... OK we did just that. Luckily my daughter took a video of the seizures to show them what was happening. They watch the video, took his temperature which they only said was high. Next they want to do brain scans MRI and CT scans and a full blood panel again, I explained they did a full blood panel 6 days ago, He then said it was most likely an internal crainial problem. I tried to say sounds more like the seizures are because his temperature is too high.... he disagreed. His recommendation was to run all these tests. Or start him on Gabipentin for the seizures. Which we opted for the medication first. I had to ask 2 more times for the temperature which they finally told me was 103. The seizures have slowed to an almost stop, he is still not eating or drinking unless forced, and little to no energy. If nothing changes we will be taking him for a second option. Not once did they address the smell or that his neck was soaked, simply said to give him a shower. Very unhappy with the care we received, the only concern was to run more tests.

I met Dr. VJ earlier this year in search of a great Veterinarian. I found my favorite one, Dr. VJ is by far the best Doctor for my animals. He is very sincere and caring while taking his time to make your pet feel comfortable. I have used his services on many occasions now for my pets and every outcome is perfect. There is no stress and all comfort for my pets when in his practice, they just run right in the door and get greeted right away by everyone. The quotes for services are printed out and hand delivered to you prior to making your appointment. There are no hidden fees whatsoever. Full printed receipts and health passports along with any other instructions are given after each appointment The entire staff are friendly and organized and the business is clean and sanitary. The staff contacted me each time to check on how my pet is and care instructions were clear including prefilled meds for pain etc., ( no other clinic ever did this for me). I have since referred Dr. VJ to everyone in need of a great Doctor for their pets and will continue to use his services for the life of mine. Thanks to all the staff and Dr. VJ for all you do!!

Dr VJ, along with any of the other Vets, and all of the staff at Clearbrook Animal Hospital have always treated me and my animals with the utmost care and attention. They have been fair and have never tried to give unnecessary treatments. They explain everything as they go and have always made sure I understood all of my options before proceeding. I have recommended them to many of my friends who also now bring their pets here. You will not be disappointed!!
