How to Save Money at Emerald Hills Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Emerald hills is always attentive to my dogs’ needs, they treat us like family when we go in, and we’ve never had a single bad experience. The vets, techs, and receptionists are all communicative, honest, prompt, and thorough!!

I can not say enough good about this vet clinic. My boy is a real hand full to say the least. They are so good with him and always have his best interest looked after. I have no problem referring people to this clinic, from the front desk, the techs and the vets. Dr Mah and staff have gone the extra mile for him so many times. Sorry guys you are stuck with him :)

Dr. Smith and Dr. Mah are both wonderful vets. They are compassionate and gentle in their approach, and always get to the bottom of our concerns with our little dog. We are lucky to have found them!

We can not say enough about the staff and Dr Smith. We took our rescue pup, Piper, for a check up and to get more information on our girl. Dr Smith was very caring, gentle and compassionate with Piper. Dr Smith included us in assisting with the examination and provided us with valuable information to help us care for Piper. Piper was so well behaved at the appointment, this was because of how Dr Smith was with Piper throughout the entire appointment. We left knowing Piper will be in caring hands at future appointments.

We had been with another vet clinic since 2014 but found their level of service declining over the past year. Their COVID policy did not allow us to accompany our dog into the clinic when he became ill and unable to walk. We decided to seek a second opinion and chose Emerald Hills as it is very close to our house. Dr Mah reviewed our dog's file and contacted us on the day of our appointment to advise us that she did not believe she could offer any other options for our boy Django and did not want to charge us for a visit when we would hear the same diagnosis we had before. His health began to deteriorate and we had decided to have him put to sleep on a Friday. However it became apparent on a Wednesday he was having difficulty breathing and needed to be euthanized that evening. Emerald Hills went out of their way to accommodate us and even allowed myself, my partner, her son and my daughter and his boyfriend inside the clinic to be there when he passed. Dr Smith was absolutely amazing and showed the most compassion we have ever experienced which made the passing of our beloved family pet that much more bearable. They even suggested an amazing service to use for his cremation and after approximately a week we received the most amazing package with his ashes and the most heartfelt personalized sympathy card we have ever seen from a Veterinary Clinic. We have since gotten a new puppy who is now a client there as well as our other dog who is 6 years old. IF you are looking for a clinic that cares, has the most friendly staff and lets you actually come in (face mask required) while your pet is assessed by the amazing vets and techs please please please chose Emerald Hills Veterinary Clinic!!!
