How to Save Money at Heartland Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been taking my two cats to Heartland for about three years now. All of the staff and vets that we have dealt with are lovely! One of my cats has severe anxiety, and they have always been so patient and gentle with him. I recently had to bring him in for a non-routine visit, as he had been vomiting for two days and refused to eat, and Dr. Jody was wonderful! She went above and beyond to make sure my cat got the appropriate care, and answered all of my questions.

Dr Jody is an amazing Vet, Her care for my little dog Jack is top notch she takes the time to explain everything and why some tests are necessary for my senior dog to make sure he is in good shape, but she has a genuine care for my pet and that is priceless i love that she is never in a rush, and always follows up with his results making me feel at ease! i love Heartland Vet the staff is amazing i would never take my little buddy any where else thank you Dr. Jody for 9 years of amazing care for Jack❤️

I send everyone I know to Heartland! I am confident their pets will receive top tier, very thorough care. I feel heard and valued as a client. My cats feel safe and respected as patients. It’s so clean, the support staff and veterinarians (especially Dr. Jody) are all amazing and so dedicated. I drive 80km round trip for all my appointments as I won’t go anywhere else!

Anytime that I have had to take in any of my pets to see Dr George and Dr Jody they show incredible professional and show a lot of caring and empathy. The assistant staff at the desk have always been exceptional with answering questions and helping with my cat’s dietary needs as well. The best veterinary clinic that I have ever been to. If you’re looking for a vet that shows professionalism and compassion for your pets then in my opinion you can’t get better help for your lovable fur babies.

I am saddened to say our French Bulldog passed away this week. We had to rush her to two emergency vets just to be told she would not make it. At the second emergency vet we were told she had a tumour on her heart which left all of us very shocked. After being with Heartland for many years and having trust in the doctors especially Dr. Gheorghe and Dr. Jody, and having many checkups and appointments, you would think they would not have missed something this important. We are so disappointed with the lack of thoroughness and sloppiness during her checkups. We were told vaguely about a heart murmur she had but they never checked back on it and said it was not a concern a month ago. They knew about her enlarged heart, and at the emergency vet, we found out we could have managed it with pills, but now it's too late. It is unacceptable that such a severe condition went unnoticed after countless visits and checkups. The disgusting oversight and failure to provide competent medical care have not only cost us our beloved pet but also shattered our trust with this facility. We hope that no other pet and their family have to endure such a tragic loss. Find another vet.
