How to Save Money at Fen Vet
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.
How Do You Choose the Right Pet Insurance Provider?

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Had to go in unexpectedly a few months ago for a very sick kitty I had. It took me forever to try and find a vet that had the time to see me on such short notice and to work with me. I called Fen Vet in desperation and they were able to get me in right away to look after my little girl. Unfortunately, it wasn't good news involving her and I had to say my goodbyes to my girl as she had very advanced cancer that seemed to have come out of the blue. While it was a very upsetting visit, they made me feel so comfortable and seen and sympathized with me as I was grieving. They're so accommodating to the fact that they're willing to work out a payment plan if someone is ever caught in a tough place and need their baby's taken care of. I got my girl cremated and bought her a beautiful urn and they took such good care of her until I could bring her home. They went above and beyond for me as they saw how much I loved my little girl. I work with animals myself and Fen Vet is the ONLY vet I highly recommend to all of my clients. They're truly there for you AND your fur babies. I can't recommend them enough. A thousand thank yous to all staff ❤️❤️

I noticed my cat Dill was having a urinary issue so I called Fen Vet Airdrie for advice and they made time for me to come in right away—and I mean within 15 minutes of calling! While he was in their care they called me with updates and explained my options for Dill’s care along with prices for these options. Before performing any procedures Dr Kate personally called to discuss openly with me what the team would do and confirmed with me what care I was comfortable with him receiving. Each staff member I interacted with took time to answer any questions I had which was much appreciated. They took my concerns seriously, acted promptly, and communicated openly about the care he needed, possible complications, and how much it would cost. Although it was scary having my sweet lil guy be unwell, I was comforted knowing the Dr. Kate and the rest of the team of Vet Techs and Veterinarians were taking good care of him! After his visit they sent a detailed summary of the examination findings, interventions completed, and next steps for his care which I appreciated as it can be overwhelming to hear it all at once at the office! I have found their prices reasonable and their cost transparency to be very refreshing. They have dealt with Dill for his previous annual exams (he can be a bit spicy with vaccinations—who isn’t!) and even with some minor complications (which were no fault of the team) they dealt with everything with grace and compassion. Not to mention the space is beautiful (if that sort of thing matters lots to you!) and they offer coffee or beverages while your pet is in for annual examinations. It definitely adds to the experience. Compassionate care, cost transparency, and a knowledgeable and competent team—what more could you ask for! I would recommend Fen Vet Airdrie to any of my friends or family if they needed care for their pets. I’m happy to have found them after some vet trial and error. Dill and I will definitely be back—but hopefully only for an annual exam next time! 🙂 While he isn’t completely out of the woods yet I feel confident and comfortable with the knowledgeable team at Fen Vet just a phone call away. Thanks Fen Vet Airdrie!

I have had no luck with finding a good vet that just wasn’t in it for the money, rude or pushy when you decline their recommendations and never listened to me. My co worker recommended Ven Vet when my 11 year old Laperm cat got sick. They got me in right away and we came up with a plan for him. They listened and we talked through all the options. I have had to call a few times because he kept having issues and they have been great with me and my cat. My Daughter had to bring him in too as I was away and they listened to her too. I love their setup they have. Way less stress for them when they get out into their own room when you walk through the door. Everyone is beyond nice and friendly there and they all love seeing Thor too. This is by far the best experience I have had with a vet in Airdrie and Calgary. Their prices are very reasonable too. I highly recommend this vet for your pets. Thank you!

I went in Sunday morning with my new kitten, she had some eye troubles and just wanted to get her check. I was expecting to get blood work and the whole works done. Unfortunately she was just weighed and the vet asked me what I thought it was. She just gave me eye drops and said otherwise she was perfect. So I took my little kitten home feeling good that I took the due diligence to get her seen. It went downhill today and fast. Today of all days on Christmas day I had to put my little new baby kitten down. Due to what you may ask? Just due to the fact she had feline parvoviruses. She had no fight in her and her chances to beat it was less then half. So today I said goodbye to my new little kitten as she wasn't even 9 weeks old . She didn't even get a chance at life because she wasn't truly looked at due to incompetence and asking me as a worried pet owner what I thought was wrong with her and if I googled it . I highly suggest readers to avoid fenvet. Little Misty will be very much missed and never forgotten. Shame on you . Merry Christmas I guess.

Amazing care today for my injured cat. Dr. Lauren, Angela, Meg and client care (sorry, I didn't catch your name) were all so wonderful! I can always count on the Fen Vet staff to be gentle, kind, and knowledgeable. You are all very appreciated!
