Diarrhea is a preexisting condition
Extremely disappointed to learn that "DIARRHEA" is considered a pre-existing condition, so if your pet has EVER had diarrhea, I would not recommend Trupanion. I have a very healthy 2.5 yr old dog who saw the vet 1x last year for his check up. To clarify, my dog had diarrhea- a symptom not a disease- after having a bad reaction to a medication , 2 years ago. He presented with diarrhea this week and it was not covered for any reason. I will be changing insurance providers as soon as possible. Do not waste your time with Trupanion. It’s a scam. I have shared this terrible experience with my dog group of over 5500 members and many r Also reported terrible experiences with Trupanion.

My Leo was adopted from a shelter. Trupanion understands that some dogs are blessed with good health, some are not. Leo, now 9 years old, was adopted at 2 years. At a young age he developed Cushing's Disease and subsequently Diabetes. From the Diabetes, he developed glaucoma and had to have a surgery to save his eyes, although he is blind now. He takes several expensive medications every day and has to undergo periodic lab testing for his conditions. Without Trupanion, I would never have been able to provide Leo with the care he needs and deserves. Claims are paid promptly, and the customer service reps are so professional and courteous. I thank God for Trupanion every day and tell anyone who will listen about this company.

The sign up process was pretty quick
The sign up process was pretty quick - had to go back and edit a couple of times because the quote gave different deductibles and co-insurance for each pet and I wanted the same plan for both. I have read the reviews and this company received good reviews and was the most affordable. Hope I never have to use it but, with previous pets, I wish we had had it!

Reliving my worst nightmare, but this time I've got help...
My cat Rosemary's insurance has literally been a lifesaver. Almost 5 years ago my therapy cat, who was my very best friend, got diagnosed with lymphoma. For almost 2 months I didn't pay for rent, bills, anything. My entire paycheck went into his treatment and I still needed assistance from friends and family to cover the gap along with my bills and rent. I would do it all over again if I had to, but I sure was pretty deep in debt for years afterward. Our battle with lymphoma was brief, but fierce. He was 9. Since then, Rosemary immediately stepped up to the plate. We grieved together, we slowly got closer and found our new normal. I started her and her brother on Trupanion within days. And ever since then I make sure, come hell or high water, that on the 8th of every month there's enough in my bank account for Trupanion. Almost 2 months ago, Rosemary turned 8. One month ago, she was diagnosed with lymphoma. The vet went over information about the specific type that she has, and then started to talk about treatments, and her voice got real apologetic when she started talking about the prices. The ability to shake my head and tell my cat's oncologist "money's not an issue, do what she needs" was literally the only thing holding me together right then. She's since been responding to treatment very well so far, and we might get up to a year. I've been able to afford not only the roof over our heads, but plenty of treats that I know she likes, a couple new toys that I know she loves, and a new cat tree for her to explore while she's still mobile. But only because she's insured. I've always had positive interactions with Trupanion, they can pay my vet directly so that I only owe the difference, they process claims very quickly, and they're literally saving our lives. I worked as a groomer, and now in a vet's office, and I've been recommending them to my clients for years.
