On the road with Donner, and Trupanio!
On October 30, 2015, while I was still grieving the loss of my beloved dog Erde three weeks before, as I was preparing to leave for the train from Washington DC to NYC to see some shows for a long weekend before I got a new dog, I glanced at my Facebook page, where I saw a posting about a German shepherd dog named Thunder whose time in time in the LA shelter was up that night. After watching Thunder’s three-minute posting, I immediately tossed the ticket to NYC in the trash can, caught a cab to Dulles airport, and then flew to Los Angeles on the next flight out to rescue him, renaming him Donner, which is German for Thunder. When I got Donner home and took him to the vets, his vet recommended that I take out a policy with Trupanion. Although I was skeptical, I did. Since then, Donner has gone from being tethered for his first four years in several LA back yards to road camping trips across North America, including the Arctic in Alaska to Acacia, Denali, Yellowstone, Redwoods, Death Valley, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Zion, and Arches national parks, and many, many more places in between. But Donner has not been without his problems along the way. But each time there was a problem, Trupanion has been there to help me make sure this beloved dog of mine had his problems solved so he could enjoy the life he is entitled to and was destined to live. I cannot recommend enough to just about every dog guardian I meet that getting a suitable policy with Trupanion is as essential as making sure their dogs are fed, sheltered, and exercised properly. It is one of the best decisions I made in recent years, second only to rescuing Donner. You can read about Donner’s trips and new life on my blog for my trips. I mean it when I say that these trips would not have taken place if I never got that insurance policy for Donner.

Payments are delayed
Payments are delayed. One of my submitted claims was rejected as a duplicate. It was not. It was an additional visit 2 days after the original visit. I sent an email to explain, but to date have received no response.

My baby Abby was very sick
My baby Abby was very sick when she was 7 months, and again after she was a year old. Trupanion didn't ask any questions, they worked with the vet if needed to and they did a direct deposit into my checking account! They paid 100% best insurance you can have on a pet and very inexpensive!

Trupanion helped me to become a more confident pet owner and get my dog help even when it seemed like a minor issue. I have a doodle that’s allergic to grass and has severe stomach issues. Thanks to Trupanion I can afford the best possible medication for my fur baby!

We purchased pet insurance bc my daughter is still in college with a puppy.
We purchased pet insurance bc my daughter is still in college and we did not want our daughter questioning whether to take her puppy to the vet or not bc of money. Her little girl got very sick on a weekend and needed medical attention. She had to take her to a animal hospital and left with a very large bill. I did not think the insurance would pay 90% of the bill, but after deductibles, they absolutely did pay 90%. Great company and would highly recommend them.
