My policy automatically renewed at more than 150% last year's premium

My policy automatically renewed and was automatically charged. But the premium charge increased more than 50%.

Not a great plan

Not a great plan. They don’t cover much and have a convenient way of doing math so there’s a deductible and then a reduction by % as well. I though it was getting a 75/25 plan but it’s more like a 50/50 They also hiked their rates egregiously and had nothing to offer after being a loyal customer for a year. The rates increased by 30%

Everything we heard from other pet owners about FIGO was reassuring.

It is good to know we have FIGO as a backup. We have been in situations where it was very costly for pets' medical bills without insurance. Pet medical costs can be equivalent to human medical expenses. We haven't used our benefits yet so we will hopefully never have to find out what will be covered.

Pleased with my choice

Shortly after purchasing a plan from Pets Best, I had to submit a claim. Agents were very helpful answering my questions. Actually submitting claim was very easy also. Within several weeks I was notified claim wS accepted and payment was coming. I chose this company after reading great reviews and the cost of a plan was very reasonable. I would highly recommend Pets Best!

Created a pretext not to insure

I went with Embrace for insurance and regret it. In the process of processing my first claim (my dog got a tick-borne illness and vestibular symptoms), Embrace reviewed my dog's history. During that review, Embrace focused on the fact that a year ago I asked the vet about a small bump on my dog's leg. At that time, the vet examined and tested the bump (needle aspirate) and said it was benign. Embrace, however, found this in the record and has declared that my dog has a pre-existing condition and will now not be covered for any future masses or any type of cancer. All this because of a benign cyst in his medical history! When I protested they said the only way to get back my dog's coverage for cancer would be to biopsy the bump to determine cytology--a procedure my dog *does not need*--no vet would say this is medically indicated. And if I don't do that, Embrace will deny him coverage if he ever gets cancer in the future. I'm a longtime USAA member and have always respected and appreciated USAA, so I'm really dismayed that Embrace is doing this sort of thing under USAA's name. At this point I'd like to change insurance plans, but now I'm stuck: Embrace has created a barrier to future coverage for a huge category of illnesses for my pet, and the only way I can get rid of it is through an unnecessary procedure and expensive lab work (lab work Embrace won't cover, despite the fact that they're requiring it). But if I switch insurance companies now, any future recurrence of the vestibular / tick borne illness will be considered a pre-existing condition by the new company. So I'm stuck. But you don't have to be--avoid signing up with Embrace!

Stay Away! They Will Do Everything to Deny Your Claim and Not Pay You

After doing a tremendous amount of research regarding pet insurance, I ultimately chose Figo because of the coverage they "purported" to provide, and because they were backed by Costco. I purchased 3 policies for 3 separate pets, one of which was for a brand new puppy we obtained from a top reputable breeder. Just prior to that puppies 1 year birthday, he came down with horrible diarrhea, lethargy and wouldn't eat. I took him to the vet who diagnosed him accordingly (nothing too serious), and provided appropriate prescriptions. I then submitted the claim to Figo. To my shock, Figo immediately rejected my claim, on the basis that the diarrhea was a "pre-existing condition." Huh?? First, how is diarrhea a "pre-existing" condition? Second, even if it was the symptom of some "pre existing" condition, what possible "pre-existing" condition could a full-bred Golden-Retriever puppy have that would cause diarrhea? I had provided all of our puppies documents, vaccine records, and medical clearances when I submitted the claim. On top of that, I provided the name and phone number of the breeder in case they had any questions. Furious with this decision, I appealed the decision. Figo responded that because I had not provided medical documents with SOAP notes, any condition my dog had within the first 12 months of the policy was considered "pre existing." I then resubmitted all of my dog's paperwork. Suddenly, it was sufficient; they reversed their appeal and applied costs to my deductible. "Ok," you say, "you got what you were entitled to." Well, the story isn't over. When I looked at the EOB to review what had been applied, it was pennies on the dollar. They didn't give me credit for 80-90% of what I paid for my dog's appointment, tests, etc. One excuse code after another. What a joke. I'd stay away. Do your research and read other reviews on Figo. I'm not alone.
