Great Insurance!
Our puppy, Daenerys, is our Shepherd, Malinois furry baby. She was adopted from a shelter at three months. I immediately did a lot of research on insurance providers for pets. Healthy Paws Pet Insurance was rated very highly plus they had no maximum limits on claim payouts and provided reimbursed on 90% of an emergency medical cost. These are the reasons to purchase insurance; to cover the cost in case of emergencies. One day while out, Daenerys drank from an anti-freeze puddle in a parking lot. After talking to the vet hospital, we immediately decided to take her in for treatment. Even small amounts of anti-freeze can kill most pets, but by the time you see symptoms it is usually to late. The hospital did find anti-freeze toxins in her blood, and she underwent dialysis for five hours to save her life. After the procedure I filed a claim with Healthy Paws. I was worried that they might reject the claim for some reason and would have to fight to get the payment. We had only paid nine months of premiums at this point and the bill for the hospital was over $5,000, so they were losing money on this payout. But Healthy Paws came through for us. Not only did they get the claim and money over to us within about 48 hours after they received the paperwork, but they also wrote to check on how Daenerys was doing after reading the medical report. Thanks, Healthy Paws! We really appreciate all your support!

Trupanion is a Godsend!
My Doberman puppy has had GI issues since I brought him home at 10 weeks of age. He can't seem to gain weight and was regurgitating several times a day. He has had a multitude of tests - bloodwork, x-rays, ultrasound, endoscopy, etc., and we still don't have a definitive diagnosis. Currently we are treating the symptoms and Trupanion has been a Godsend, covering every single test and medication once my deductible was met. I don't know what I would do if not for this insurance. Their customer service is top notch and it's amazing how quickly I am reimbursed for expenses. Buying a policy from Trupanion may be the smartest thing I have ever done.

Disingenuous Deductible
I have the $250 deductible 80% coverage plan but it is disingenuous to call this a $250 deductible. It is a $300 deductible because only 80% of eligible costs go towards the deductible. In my insurance policy it says: "DEDUCTIBLE: Your pet’s deductible is shown on the pet schedule of the declarations page. Your pet’s deductible shall apply once per coverage term. " My declarations page says: Coinsurance (Your Share): 20% Reimbursement (Our Share): 80% Annual Deductible: $250 Example, if I have a $1,000 vet bill that are all eligible costs I would expect to pay $400 (assuming its the first claim of the year). This is made up of a $250 deductible and $150 (($1,000-$250)*.20=$150) and Healthy Paws would reimburse me $600. ((($1,000-$250)*.80=$600) HOWEVER, Healthy Paws looks at the $1000 bill and ($1,000*80%= $800) because "I am responsible for 20% of all vet bills and healthy paws reimburses 80% of total vet bills". They they take the $250 deductible out of the $800 and I am only reimbursed $550 and not $600. This is truly a $300 deductible. I was told by a customer service liaison (who was incredibly insulting) that deductibles in pet insurance work differently than deductibles such as in homeowners, car, or health insurance policies. I pay a good amount of money per month for my policy, I've held it for almost 4 years now. I would expect more from this company.

User friendly
This review is based on how easy & user friendly it was to enroll from their website. Got to play with different numbers based on our budget & we couldn’t be more satisfied. Minus one star because our coverage hasn’t kicked in yet, still on a 2 week waiting period so we could not review the actual services, if any.

It should not take over a month to…
It should not take over a month to process a claim. I have also found that the coverage is lacking so reimbursements aren't even close to what a paid out. So after factoring in the monthly payments and applying the deductible, it costs me more than it saves me. This program is just not worth the money.

Very difficult to file a claim..communication poor
Very difficult to file a claim. Said needed more information from my vet and that they would call. Said they could not contact my vet and closed the claim. I have no idea what additional information they needed but they just went ahead and closed the claim.

I do not normally take the time to write reviews but
Turns out I have a dog with a chronic (mega- esophagus) life long condition that I did not know about when I insured him, nor did they. Nonetheless they have kept their end of the bargain. They are well organized, friendly, knowledgeable and very responsive. Wish every company (especially the telecoms!!!) were like this so I would not have "tech support PSD".

I loved Figo at first
I loved Figo at first. They had very affordable rates and great coverage- I bought plans for all of my pets. As time went on and their underwriters got bought out, the premiums went up astronomically, and continue to do so every year. I had to drop coverage on all but one of my pets (he's special needs), but on the remaining plan, I'm paying a fortune for terrible coverage because I can't afford the coverage I'd like to have for my pet. Not to mention, I can't go to another company because my pet's conditions will be considered preexisting. I trusted Figo with my pet's coverage, and they seriously let me down. The rate goes up by $30 a month every year like clockwork, and to cover anything, they want an absurd amount of records, including records that they already have from previous claims. Figo is just a joke anymore.
