Upon the arrival of two kittens I knew I had to look for insurance. Looking at other options I decided on Pets Best and am extremely glad I did. I have the plan that includes "wellness" and have been surprised at the coverage and the actual reimbursement and how quickly it happens. Keep up the great service

They Deny Claims With No Reason

They deny a claim and say they don't have enough records when the entire record was sent to them. Their explanation is unhelpful - they try not to pay claims. I don't recommend.

I thought the wellness plan would cover more of the routine general vet visit charge needed to get the required immunizations. The shots are covered, but not the accompanying exam fee.

Not good for pet rescuers

This company works well for owners who enroll their pets at an early age, but for those who choose to rescue a pet, I can tell you from recent personal experience that Trupanion is overly broad in their interpretation of initial medical exams. It seems they are more interested in finding reasons to not cover care than they are in actually helping you care for your beloved animal. For instance, the dog I rescued had some skin allergies/mange, but when I asked for coverage for food allergies, they said it was exempt from coverage under the very broad umbrella of "allergies." Just because you have a skin allergy does not mean you have a food allergy. My dog also came in with some mild plaque on his teeth. Plaque can be removed. But because when he initially came in off the streets he had some mild plaque, they use the broad umbrella of gum disease and told me that no dental work in the future would be covered. When I tried to logically reason with the people at Trupanion, they just read from a script and were argumentative and defensive. If Trupanion wants to be advocates for pet adoption, which I hope they do, then they REALLY need to rethink how they create policies. At this point it feels all about the money, with little regard for the adopted pet. They keep saying that all pet insurance companies don't cover pre-existing conditions, and I get that. I suppose that might be true. But I sure do hope, and I seriously doubt, that other companies will be overly broad in their interpretation of what a pre-existing condition is. It's just not fair or right to say that because someone has a skin allergy will also have a food allergy. That's just bonkers to me. I will be better off putting aside the money I've been paying Trupanion each month and putting it in a savings account for my dog.
