Starts out great, then "wham!" -- they jack the rates up by 30 - 40% annually even if you never use the policy
I had this insurance for one year. I was able to benefit from some signup discounts. I enrolled my dog at 11 weeks of age. He was healthy and I submitted zero claims for accident/illness over the year. The wellness plan is basically a holding account; you pay a certain amount that they hold for you and give you your own money back for qualifying wellness expenses as you incur and submit "claims" (it functions like an HSA, Health Savings Account). When it came time to renew my policy, despite the fact that I submitted zero claims for accident or illness, they told me that I could expect a 30 - 40% increase in the cost of coverage EVERY YEAR, regardless of whether or not I use the policy. They embrace your money, and keep on squeezing. While rising costs is an issue for all types of insurers, some carriers do not systematically raise rates annually (and by such a whopping percentage that is way higher than the rate of inflation). Some offer discounts and incentives if you wind up not using the policy. I'm going to try somebody else who won't squeeze me like a boa constrictor.

The mobile app makes is seamless to file a claim. Response time is good. So pleased that I have already referred to people to get MetLife Pet Insurance.

Wouldn't recommend
They don't answer emails if you have a question. Didn't get a response until I told them I was cancelling, but they still ignored my original emails. If you are considering using this company, get your pet's exam done before signing up. It took me a while to get an appointment so I wasted the first month's payment. They don't mention you need this until after you open your account.

Disappointed.
I've been a client with Trupanion for a year now, with my two young cats. I recently received an email from them detailing how fair their pricing is, and how committed to their fairness they are, and then told me my monthly fee is going up by 23% for one cat, and 19% for another. How is it that 23% (or 19%, for that matter) per month, on a healthy 1 year-old cat, with no previous claim history, is fair? I called them and asked how on earth an increase of that amount "fair", and they gave me a spiel on inflation in the industry. Now here's the kicker, I've been a veterinary technician for over 20 years at this point, and I have an idea about veterinary costs, so I also know that although everything in life is more expensive, 23% a month is not justifiable. I also have multiple colleagues who use Trupanion and did not receive anywhere near the same increase in their monthly fee. I currently work at a very busy veterinary hospital. People ask us for insurance recommendations all the time, which we're not allowed to make, but all I can do is share my experience of their "fair" treatment. Do yourself a favor and go with another company so you don't find yourself disappointed like I am.
