Price Gouging!

When I started with Healthy Paw ten years ago, the were owned by a different company. Each year my increases were reasonable. When they were acquired by Chubb, I started seeing jumps of 50% or more annually. This year they sent me a notice that my rates were increasing by 150% from $105/month to $257/month. I am gobsmacked by this increase. They sent a long letter trying to justify why they had to up my rate and it was all corporate BS. The problem with changing insurance companies is that no new company will cover pre-existing conditions. So, they kind have you by the balls if you have a pet with a chronic condition. Chubb has no conscience when it comes to exploiting this aspect of pet insurance, knowing that you will probably suck it up and pay the exorbitant increase because of a pre-existing or chronic condition. Not this year. The 150% increase in premium rates is cost prohibitive for me. I did some research and found that there are plenty of insurers out there with the same coverage for far less. The average I found was about $125/month. Don't get stuck with Healthy Paws. They lure you in with a competitive rate and then increase the premiums every year at an excessive percentage. Shop around before getting stuck with them.

Claim Submission is a Nightmare

Whenever I have logged in to Pets Best and tried to submit a claim, their system in the last step says service is down and claims do not get submitted. This has been happening for the last 2 months, and it is very frustrating. I understand the site being down for some time for maintenance but almost for 2 months, thats unacceptable. I even tried to create a customer ticket for the same to which I got the reply that the site is under maintenance and we regret for the inconvenience. thats it. For 2 months, Its not acceptable. Moreover, the site is not accessible from other countries. Thats a shame

We got pet insurance with Truanion when…

We got pet insurance with Truanion when we got our Springer Spaniel in Ottawa and we were paying about $68 per month. About a year later our dog was diagnose with a incurable enlarge heart, thank good we had insurance. In October of 2023 we moved to Vancouver Island and our insurance went up to almost $90 per month and they said veterinarian cost was higher in BC. We compaired our cost from Ottawa and BC and our cost was less. Now we moved around the corner from were we lived and the insurance went up to $108 month. So I called them and they told me because we moved the cost is higher and I told them it was just a block away. Then after talking with them they said it was because of so many claims. I got the insurance so that I don't have to pay so much, is this fair??

Is Nationwide really on our Side

Is Nationwide really on our Side? It doesn't seem like it. I rated 2 stars because in the past I had yearly surgeries for my dog because of recurrent skin cancer and reimbursement has been simple and fast. I have had a policy for 6 years for my dog and 2 cats, things have come up, its been easy. But now I have my back up against the wall, my newest cat (a stray who just showed up) had to have an expensive surgery right before his coverage started (credit card is maxed out now), then a couple weeks later a go at the emergency vet for urinary issues, he will now need to be on a special diet for the rest of his life, each 16 lb bag upwards of $140! This isn't a lifestyle choice, this is to prevent very expensive surgeries and/or death. They only cover $100 annually, that's IF you opt into it! The no prior authorization is disappointing, not all of us have a credit line of 5k to pay for surgeries. My dog needs to have more cancer removed along with a dental surgery - hopefully at the same time. I called and asked for a supervisor, hoping there was some way to offer a promissory note for my vets office based off of the quote received from my vets office. No sympathy, no compromise just "no's". If I could change my policy I would, but the world of pet insurance doesn't cover pre-existing conditions. My dog is 11. He has pre-existing conditions. I pay approx. $250 monthly from payroll deductions to call and get "no's". So based on my paycheck to paycheck income, I will end up having to split the surgeries - cancer and dental because that's what I can afford to put up front. This will end up costing Nationwide an additional surgery fee and all associated surgery costs. Not to mention, the risk of anesthesia for an older dog, for 2 surgeries. For something that saves them and myself money, how can the answer be no? I know based on past experiences with them that it will be covered minus deductible and the percentage. Are they unable or unwilling to review or escalate to someone who can offer something more than "no."? Nationwide isn't on our side. They are big business. 2 very different things. Change my mind.
