The used to be the best, I don't believe that's true anymore ......
Been with Trupanion over a decade. For probably 8 years i never had an issue. But over the last few years it's been pretty terrible service. Specifically their claims department. They will blanketly deny claims saying a form is missing or provide some excuse and hope you don't fight back. It's happened several times now. Most recently my claim was denied for not having an itemized invoice attached and they sent me instructions how to download an itemized invoice from chewy. Only problem was THAT IS LITERALLY EXACTLY WAS WAS ATTACHED TO THE CLAIM THEY DENIED! So they denied my claim saying i need to download an itemized invoice from chewy, and attached to that denial was my itemized invoice that i had downloaded from chewy. I called, argued, i provided not a single additional piece of documentation and VIOLA now all of the sudden my claim was magically approved. Wait .... i thought it was missing data? They do this now just blanketly deny claims and hope you don't push back. I just had 3 claims denied. Find a different provider.

Worst Insurance Experience in my Life
Pets Best is the absolute worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. For forty years, I have had positive experiences with Blue Cross, AAA, Nationwide and more companies for every aspect of my life. Pets Best stands out as the most unscrupulous entity I have ever dealt with. They delay processing of every single claim. Then they attempt to deny every single claim, causing our busy Veterinarian practice to have to contact them to debate why certain tests and procedures were completely necessary for the well being of our beloved pets.. Pets Best phone staff are not well informed, their computer system is outdated and they are unethical with their dealings. One operator told me that because one of our pets went through an illness, she was red flagged for dismissal of her policy if our payment was ever even one date late as they wanted to "get rid of her". We are preparing a complaint for the State Insurance Commissioner. We go to the best Veterinarian practice in our County. They have thousands of clients as they have numerous specialists and cutting edge facilities. Their staff tells us that all of their clients who have Pets Best have the same complaints and that clients are happy with other carriers- especially Nationwide. We have signed up our younger Pets with other insurance companies and they are vastly better in every area.

I’ve used Trupanion for 2 of my dogs. It has been well worthwhile. One had a major surgery. They paid promptly with no hassle at all. They even refunded payments after I remembered to cancel after my Dexter died. What insurance companies should be like.

Emergency trip to the vet
Emergency trip to the vet - cat not eating, vomiting, etc. Total bill was $1,100 and Trupanion paid - before we even left the building - more than $700. The remainder was all easily explained and within our policy parameters. I was very impressed!

I am disappointed in Trupanion's services. I have a cat and I have insurance with Trupanion for many years. This company makes every effort not to pay insurance when it comes to paying the claim. They found different reasons as to why it is not covered. My cat has a diarrhea condition, on and off, and we claimed 3 times for the same reason. As per policy, the Truponion is saying that I have a deductible amount that I have to pay for injury or illnesses and that this deductible is paid only one time for lifelong conditions. so, the condition is diarrhea, and i paid the deductible of 26.20 CAD on the Feb. 23, 2022 claim, then I paid 100 CAD on a claim from Feb. 27, 2022 (shows remaining deductible is 173.80 CAD) Now, in 2023, 1.5 years later, my cat again got diarrhea that was treated with the same medication, but as per the customer service representative, I have to pay my 300 deductible starting again as diarrhea in 2022 does not relate to diarrhea in 2023. How it even can be possible? How then the lifelong illness can be described? My understanding that if it says one time pay for lifelong condition, i have to pay once for life condition, does not matter how many times this condition will repeat, it is still one condition. Diarrhea is diarrhea, it cannot be something else. But NO, Trupanion is always trying to find a reason to NOT pay you. And also the process of paying or investigating your claim is sooo long, last claim happened in November 2023, and the answer i got end of December 2023, further investigation was almost 2 months, finally got the answer with a different reason for not to pay the claim. Wonderful experience but need to improve claim processing times
I've been a customer of Pets Best for several years and enjoy the ease of being able to submit claims and haven't ever had much of an issue as all documentation submitted has been sufficient. Great customer service whenever I've called. The only area of improvement needs to be the speed of processing a claim as it has been, on average, about 21 days from the date of submission to receiving an outcome from the submission. Would highly recommend Pets Best!
