The adjusters are NOT animal lovers
(SECOND EDIT: After Dagmar passed away, and after I cancelled my Trupanion policies, the woman who assisted me with the cancellation submitted another appeal on my behalf. A few weeks later, I received checks from Trupanion for what they should have paid me in the first place, but the damage had already been done. My original review stands unchanged. I insure my babies with Embrace now, which has already proven to be a far better company.) Original review: To say that Trupanion is the worst is too kind. To say that Trupanion only takes your money and gives you nothing for it is too kind. I do not know how their adjusters sleep at night, and it is a shame, because once (apparently before it changed ownership) it was a wonderful insurer. We first got Trupanion insurance for Dagmar when Juliette was being treated for cancer in 2019. Dagmar’s first claim several months later (removal of lumps, which were benign, as biopsies showed) was denied, because the vet had first noted the masses a few months before the coverage had started. Fast forward through several surgeries and several denials and denials of appeals, even in the face of biopsies which showed the growth of cancer, to a very aggressive surgery in 2024, clearly showing a spread of cancer, which they denied because “adenomas” (benign tumors) are not covered. A month later, a veterinarian oncologist puts in a claim for treatment, which is denied because of the “preexisting condition of similar masses.” In contrast, I heard a horror story while at the oncology office about a claim that WAS covered by Trupanion: the poor dog had several different cancers, but the adjusters saw the glass half-full and determined that each cancer was its own condition and needed to first meet its own deductible. The customer service will talk to you as if they are on your side, and they may well be, but if they are animal lovers then they should find other jobs. The customer service will advise you to get the vet to speak for you on appeal, but two doctors spoke for me, and Trupanion doesn’t listen to them either. Animal health is not in their interest. ADDITION AFTER READING TRUPANION’S REPLY: I encourage everyone to read at least the first sentence of their reply, and keep in mind that they put themselves forward as a company that insures the health of animals.

My experience is based primarily on my experience treating a seriously ill pet.
My review is based primarily on my past experiences with the company. My wife and I have had Trupanion insurance for our dogs for a number of years. We recently lost our beloved female Lab to cancer and living in the Northeast the costs of medical care for animals is quite high. Our lab was treated over a period of nearly six months and without Trupanion we would not have been able to afford her treatments.

If you want throw money away. This is your place for pet insurance
Cat with serious health concerns. But embrace sees weight loss not as a symptom but as a preexisting condition. The rational for denial of all claims is not based in science. They use the most ridiculous reason to not pay a possible cancer diagnosis. You would think they scan on you records for your pet. Then search on words to claim pre existing condition. Pet insurance is sketchy to begin with. You will always pay more the. They payout. Appeals are just as ridiculous. So when faced with 2k charges for possible cancer diagnosis. They will use weight loss a pre existing condtio To deny everything. Every previous cold, scratch, anorexia. They have. Your records and just deny on symptoms. Word search is a great wayto find reasons deny They refuse topay claims. Why do I have e pet insurance? Especially when your pet is older. They have records to search anything and deny. But the denial is not based on symptoms not actual pre existing conditions. So will be canceling the money would be better saved in a bank account. My cat may have a nasal tumor. But because cat sneezes, not covered. Sneezing is a pre existing condition. So ruling out nasal cancer is impossible beit requires a catscan and rhinoscope.Thats about $3500. On top of the 2k I paid. But embrace does not see this as a condition that should be investigated. If per sneezed the head is not covered. if pet lost weight and latter a serious weight loss.Claims Denied Because weight loss Is pre existin. If you have a young pet you might get reimbursed. Older pets, will be denied. The claims adjusters don’t seem To have any knowledge other then denyjng claims on key words.

PETSBEST BIGGEST SCAM PET INSURANCE
Stay as far away from this insurance as possible, excuse after excuse for why a claim is not paid! Spent over $10,000 on vet bills and was only reimbursed $300, total scam! Takes forever to get a claim paid too, 2 months plus!

Incredible service
ASPCA Pet Insurance is by far the best I have ever had. I purchased pet insurance for my dog and my cat the first day that I brought them home. You never know what can happen to your animals. What you do know is a veterinary bill will always be high. Unfortunately my dog developed severe allergies. Our pet insurance has covered the cost of all of his allergy, testing, his allergy medication and a main portion of his visits. It also covers a large portion of his prescription dog food. The reimbursement into our bank account is easy and so very helpful. Our cat at just one year old developed urinary crystals in his urine. He now has to be on a prescription cat food for the rest of his life to control this issue. After purchasing the prescription, dog food and cat food, I submit my receipt to ASPCA pet insurance and within two days I have a reimbursement in my bank account. I have saved thousands of dollars over the past two years between my dog and cats vet, bills, medication‘s and prescription foods. If I can give you one piece of advice, it would be to purchase pet insurance for your cat or your dog from day one. Most plans don’t cover pre-existing conditions. The small monthly payment to have pet insurance will be well worth it in the long run. You might not see it initially, but down the road as your pet gets older and things come up, and they always come up, you’ll be happy to have this insurance plan. Thank you ASPCA insurance. You really do care for our pets and their owners!
Great insurance company
I have 3 dogs. So you know how many claims I am submitting. Met Life is everything I expected. Customer service helped me with my first submissions. Once you understand their system, everything is a go. I don't think people understand 10-15 days is business days not calendar.. Payment is easy after setting up how you want to receive payment. Thank you Met Life. It takes a lot of worry off me if something goes wrong. The only thing I wish is, a way for Met Life to pay vet at time of visit, so its not such a hard hit on the pocket.

I do love being able to file a claim online
I do love being able to file a claim on your website, it makes it very easy to file the claim. The only thing I would love to see change is having to put in a date for when the illness/injury first occurred when it is an ongoing medical condition. It would be great if you could add a button to say it is an ongoing illness so you don’t have to try and remember when the illness first occurred.
