Right from the start of the phone call to explain the insurance and help me pick out what would be good for me and Sabrina. I submitted my first wellness claim and with in days received an email about the claim being processed and then approved and payment right after. No problems at all. The email communication is excellent.

My dog Tucker has been insured for over 5 years. ASPCA has been amazing with reimbursement— we had back to back ACL repairs in 2020 and 2021 that were covered @90%. We are so grateful to them!

I got notified that the claim 2nd one h closed due to no response and a representative said she would reopen the claim for reimbursement. That never happened and no follow up was given. I will be looking at other insurance in the future

I’m so happy we had this insurance. Our dog encountered an unexpected ( and expensive) illness and the ASPCA processed the claims quickly and efficiently, promptly depositing the reimbursement in our bank account

They don't actually pay the vet directly.. Don't bother

Do not get the insurance because you think that they will pay the vet directly. What actually happens is while you're standing in line at the vet waiting to see if they will pay the claim they will drag their feet and say something like it will take a while to review this. So then you will have to pay it directly anyway. Then they will find a reason to reject it, either claiming it is related to an underlying condition that they had before they got the insurance or something of that nature. They have a team of people that go through claims with a fine tooth comb looking for reasons to reject it. Of course you can appeal it but it will take up to 6 weeks (this was told to me by a Trupanion customer service rep). By then you've already paid it and you've already been through one credit card cycle and racked up the interest. So they are not the best insurance if you think that they're going to pay the vet directly. For example I got it when my dog was a pup and she went in for an ear infection during the waiting period. So far they have tried to link the ear infection to multiple things that I have submitted including a skin infection that was nowhere near the ear (it was because of a reaction from flea treatment) and a hernia. I'm not really sure what one had to do with the other but it is an extremely frustrating process. I got the insurance because I thought it was nice and convenient that they would pay the vet directly but so far it has done nothing but frustrate me and at this point it's too late to switch vets because my pup is already a year and a half and any new insurance would have several underlying conditions at this point and would not cover them. My recommendation is to try Spot insurance. I did a lot of research and it looks like they have some really great insurance packages including covering exam fees and wellness visits. Trupanion does not have any of these options. They also have way better ratings. Check them out and for your own good skip Trupanion.
